Doctors
It is almost impossible to get into our doctor's office. It's not just our doctor but most doctors in our area are nearly impossible to get a same day appointment. I have even called the doctor and said , "My daughter has a fever of 102 degrees and her breathing sounds wheezy. I would like her to be seen today." The secretary then says that she can get her in the day after tomorrow. I proceed to tell her that she really needs to be seen today. She then tell me that I should take her to Urgent care or the Emergency room. I then ask to talk to my favorite nurse Grace and she is able to get us in. Nurse Grace understand that my daughter has a lot of respitory issues. The problem really isn't their fault. You see thay have raised the cost for malpractice insurance so high in IL that many doctors are leaving the state and going over to St. Louis. I end up taking my sick kids to the Urgent care center 3 out of every 4 times they are sick. It costs me $100 for an Urgent Care visit but only $20 for a doctor visit. The hospitals around her are half rate too. We actually go across the border to St. Louis every time we need a hospital. Dan has said that if he is ever having a heart attack to take him over the border to St. Louis at Barnes Hospital because he trusts them but not our hospitals over here. It's about a 20 minute drive. he still feels he's got a better chance of survival if he does so. Today I called our Dr. to get my son a physical I didn;t know he needed until yesterday and they can get him in for a month. The physical is due Monday if he wants to try out for basketball. I have been calling around here all morning trying to get an appointment in our area. Nothing. I am seriously thinking about taking him to St. Louis if I can't get him in here. I might just change all of us to a doc in St. Louis. This is crazy.

It's those democrats and witches, really.
I totally understand. Same thing happens here. The last time I took my son to the doctor, I only told the receptionist the main reason I was bringing him. And told the nurse another thing I wanted to discuss with the doctor. The doctor came in and said she couldn't discuss that because I didn't tell them up front and they didn't schedule time for that too. She did give me a suggestion, so it worked out. But they need to tell you up front if there is more than one reason you need to see the doctor so you can get all the time you need. I don't understand it.
RYC: no we don't have any beagles. I wish we did. they are the cutest dogs and puppies. I would have to keep one.
I still think it's ridiculous that America has to pay for healthcare. That makes me a little more proud to be Canadian. ;)
That is crazy! Our doctors here sqeeze us in. I can't believe your urgent care is so expinsive!
Anyway good luck Jen!
That's how the adult clinic around here works and it was very annoying and hard to get used to when we first moved here, but they do have a walk-in clinic in the same building and it costs the same for the copay. The pediatric clinic (in the same building) always keeps same day openings for sick kids to see the doctor.
I totally understand your position.. For me, it's a hassle for me to get a appt at my own Dr.. If I want an appt it will be like a month before I get to see my Dr.. They said if I really need to see Dr. I would have to go thru ER.. Talking about ridiculous.. I had mention in my blog that my "test" won't be schedule til end of Oct. Talking about waiting and have it bugging me in the back of my mind.. Nowdays it seems it don't pay to call Dr to make an appt. Just go straight to the ER.. How wack is the system is??
I totally get you. I do not like my doctor at all, and doctors don't seem to care anymore. I remember when I was a kid and my mom was worried about me, the doc would see me that day.
That sucks. We have public health care, but it's still a wait to get in to see a Dr. There's a major doctor shortage.
we see a nurse practitioner, it's the best route to go for us yet. she can take care of routine stuff.
I am a guy. Guys don't go to the doctor. Problem solved.
It's the same way here in Ohio. I think I heard that we have the second highest malpractice insurance premiums in the county, so doctor's are running for the hills from this state.
Just wanted to wish you and yours a blessed holiday!
