  • Changes

So, I've decided to change the focus of this Xanga. I'm going to keep it more about family & home life.
I know I can't be the only one here who has the challenges I do. I've been on so many homemaking sites, & can only take a little away that will work for me. For example, so many times I read a blog about bulk cooking & feel a twinge of discouragement. Since I share my mil's kitchen, I neither have time nor space for bulk cooking. But, I have found a way to do just a little.

So, by way of introduction to the new focus, I'm going to list some of my homemaking challenges. These are just the physical hurdles of making a home for my family.
    1. We live with my mil & it is very much HER house. Her desk & sewing machine inhabit the bedroom my oldest son uses.
    2. We keep separate finances & schedules. We eat meals separately.
    3. My storage space for food is on a small enclosed patio. I have a storage closet for a pantry, & a refrigerator.
    4. My mil has a very small galley kitchen.
    5. She just recently got a solid surface stove, which, I'm finding, doesn't handle large pots & pans well.
    6. Hubby works swing shift, but he is in the recovery room of a large hospital, & his shift doesn't end until his work is done. He is frequently not home until one in the morning or later. Our family schedule reflects that. We are usually having breakfast midmorning, then dinner at 2:00 before hubby has to leave for work. My mil fixes her lunch between noon & one on the days she is home, but there is one day a week when she is not fixing her lunch until the time i need to begin cooking.
    7. My mil insists on doing most of the housework herself, giving me little opportunity to teach my kids homemaking & housekeeping skills.
    8. My bedroom/home office/homeschool resource library/craft room is a space in the basement that is roughly 11' X 20'. It is also the bedroom for 2 of my kids.

That is a taste of it. In my blog, I will discuss the hurdles I've overcome, skirted around or crawled under! LOL! I won't miss the blessings, though. There are some, & if I concentrate on the difficulties, I'll begin to wallow in self-pity, & that is not where God wants me to be! I'll also share our fun family times here, & I'll start a new Xanga for my memes & photo challenges, unless they suit the flavor of this blog!

Wow that must be difficult to say the least! I lived with my in-laws for about 6 months and nearly went insane! Plus  I only had one child at the time.

Should be interesting to learn more!

    Hugs
