  • Lent Preperation

    With Wednesday comes ...Lent.

Now the majority of the Protestant world says..."But Amyyy!  You aren't caf-o-lick!"

And I say..."Well, actually, I kinda am.  And so are you!"  We all know of my grammar-Nazi tendencies.  Here comes another one.  'Catholic' with a little 'c' means universal.  As is, the Holy catholic church, Apostle's Creed style.  We (all Christians) are catholic.  Thank you very much.  And not only Roman Catholic's observe Lent.  Lots of yummy Reformed churches do, too.  And so do I.  I am Reformed, and according to Andrew, also yummy.

So, like I said, Lent begins Wednesday.  I need a big change.  Last year, I decided to give up Starbucks for Lent.  That is, until my ex-boyfriend decided to give up ME for Lent...then I kinda forgave myself for preserving my sanity over the Lenten tradition.  So...onto bigger and better things.

This year, I'm giving up fast food.  Nothing will be better for me at this point, both health-wise, and financially.  And even spiritually, since that is the idea behind Lent.  It isn't about being 'religious', as lots of Bible belters love to spout.  It's about spiritual discipline.  This is something I need...I need to be able to change something and stick to it.  I'm going to save time, money, and calories by giving up fast food.  I'm going to make positive changes by making my lunch the night before, so I'm not running around in the morning frantically getting ready.  I'll be less stressed and more settled.  I'm excited about this challenge!

Today, in preparation for spiritual Spring cleaning, I cleaned out my car and washed it!  The weather was delicious today, so I took advantage.  I feel great! I might even skip Fat Tuesday, because I already feel plenty fat.  I think I might start a day early

RYC: It's not a four day work week at all--especially for my husband. He works the other six. I do too--just not all of my six are for pay, as his are. There are church things (and for him, studying, counseling, administrative things, and teaching/preaching time) every other day of our week except for Monday. It's okay--it's a common misconception. I understand the stress and the rigorous schedule of teaching, though. I was a classroom teacher (junior high first, elementary second) before I "retired" to focus on being a help to my husband in ministry.

    LOVE that picture!

I've never observed Lent, but I think I am missing out by not doing so.  When I was younger, I thought it was Lint, as in dryer.

Giving up fast food is a good call, particularly if it's become a habit...
