At 5:07, she says: "Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life; on man cometh unto the father but by me'. Do you believe this and do you think Islam is a way to salvation?"
Wright responds: "Jesus also said 'Other sheep have I who are not of this fold." Followed by about 20 seconds of applause, whooping, and hollering from the audience, as if they were at a sports event.
The "Rev" forgot to say the rest of the verse:
Joh 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also
I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one
fold, and one shepherd.
Here's the deal:
If Jesus were not the only way to heaven, then God the father is a sick bastard. If Jesus were not the only way, God would have been completely malevolent in allowing his Son to die. Jesus asked if this cup could pass from him, if at all possible, his father would take it away from him. Yet God still put him on the cross. God killed his own Son! Why in the world would God lie to Jesus? Why would Jesus die if there was another way? There is no other way. Jesus is the Mr. Exclusive Christ. Orthodox Christianity is the only way to heaven. Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. I know this will offend some people...but it's the truth. God offers you this gift, and you won't find it anywhere else but in Jesus Christ.
Reverend Wright is using Christ as the whipping boy for his racist, victim-mentality-ridden church. Christ is the Lord of THE church. Not the white church. Not the black church. Not the church of any country, race, political persuasion. I read an awesome blog about this written by a sister in Christ, who also happens to be black. You can find it here. We need more level-headed thinkers like her as black Christians, so that the idiotic loud mouths like "Reverend" Wright, Jesse Jackson, etc. You can read her awesome blog here.
I also find it interesting that he considers our military being stationed in other countries as being the same as the Roman oppression during Christ's time. I think he is greatly mistaken and has some pretty twisted ideas.
*hugs*
well its a great text. it tells me how God Loves me and how he save me from being a sinner i relly able to except this chance to trust God
You go girl! Tell it like it is. I have known alot of African American Christians from my time in the Houston area, and there a many who believe in the loving, gracious and merciful God and Christ that we White folk believe in. And don't even get me started on his comment on the military.
Love Ya!

I see what you are saying and understand your position, but to damn others of different cultures and beliefs simply because they don't believe in your particular savior is a little twisted. I have a hard time believing that any religion truly intends for harm to come to others that don't agree with them. If this is true, though, I am ashamed of the church and what it has become.
And also, I'm not sure what you mean by suggesting that the majority of black Christians are not up to your religious standards.
Good writing, even if I don't share in your sentiments. You present your alternative arguments very well.
If I did not believe that Christ was the ONLY way to Heaven, I would be denying Him as my savior. And therefore I would not be a Christian. I never said I wanted anyone to be harmed for not being a Christian, did I? My point is that this man is claiming Christ as the center for his theology, yet denies Christ's power and honor as the only savior. This is a dichotomy that does not and will not win heaven for anyone. I am not going to fall into the same trap as Wright in this video by dismissing the need to confess Christ as only as a savior, but THE ONE and ONLY savior and way to heaven.
I would like to give you 1,000 thanks for your respect and kindness in disagreeing. Thank you very much...really. I would like to see more people give respectful and thought out comments like this one!
I suppose we'll agree to disagree then. Thank you for posting. I enjoyed reading your reply; it is refreshing to debate theology and ethics civilly. :)
Wow, is this the ignorance of American Christianity?
Jesus was asked point blank "how do I go to heaven?"
Do any of you numbskulls know how he replied?
It wasnt worship me and go around judging people!
he gave explicit instructions.
@umbrosia - Jesus says in the commission given to the disciples in Mark 16:16 -
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
That seems pretty clear to me, especially when he's telling his disciples to go out and preach the gospel, HIS gospel, to all the world. It isn't insensitive to believe that your religion is true. I would be a horrible follower of my religion if I believed that it wasn't necessarily true.
"Judging" people is a catch phrase that I despise. If it's "judging" to believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven, and that other people will go to hell if they don't follow him, than being called "judgmental" doesn't bother me.
@NightCometh - So you are basing your faith on passages that most mainstream Biblical scholars claim to be added later, and not part of the original Gospel? have you read what is says in the NIV before Mark 16: 8-20?
Let me educate you: "The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9-20."

This is what I meant by ignorance.
How bout judgmental and ignorant?
does that bother you?
@umbrosia - If you think it's ignorant to believe the Bible, that doesn't bother me. Go on your merry way.
