  • It's Good to be a Bruin

I knowa lot of you hate sports entries, but I can't help myself. I mean, it'sgreat to be a Bruin right now. Saturday's game was ugly, I meanincredibly ugly. But we beat Memphis 50-45. Woo hoo! We are regionalchamps and are now headed to the Final Four in Indianapolis. Strangely,we are not the only non-#1 seed to get there. In fact, all #1 seedslost--Memphis, Duke, Connecticut and Villanova. Of course, this reallyscrewed up my bracket.

I had UCLA (of course), Texas (beatingDuke), Connecticut and Villanova. Okay, LSU who beat Duke and Texas isa pretty tough team and Florida who beat Villanova is definitely notchopped liver. But George Mason getting into the Final Four is a majorshock... Or should I say mid-major shock. But this is cool withme, because GMU is a local team and everyone around here is going nuts,so I feel like I'm party to the celebration, even though people at thebar point out the fact that I am wearing a a UCLA baseball capand a Bruin sweatshirt.

Asfor our boys in Blue, it was defense, defense, defense. They just shutthem down. Some media people and the Memphis players themselves gaveall due respect to UCLA's defense, but they said it was as muchMemphis, that they just couldn't knock them down. Memphis All-AmericanRod Carney said about Afflalo:

"He'sa great defender," Carney said. "But it was me more than anything. Icouldn't concentrate on knocking down shots. I was just off. Everyoneplayed terrible."

Yeah, right. Carney had only 5points in the game and the last three came in the final seconds on athree-pointer. If you saw the game, you will have noticed thatAfflalo didn't even try to defend him, and it went swish. Before thatAfflalo hounded him and it just threw him off tempo, destroying hisrhythm. He scored TWO points in the first 39 minutes and 40 seconds andthree in garbage time. Yes, Memphis played terrible, but that wasbecause of the Bruin defense. It was awesome!

But we now playLSU, and that Big Baby--Glenn Davis--they have playing the low post isas wide as he is tall. He is going to be hard to stop and UCLA willhave to put in an extra effort on defense to stop this guy. But untilthen, I will enjoy the Bruins run and bask in the sunlight they havereleased over Bruin Nation. 10-2 football season and now a Final Fourappearance.

It's good to be a Bruin.

Hey O-Man, long time so see (or write to, at least). I haven't been on Xanga in three months and just saw the comment you left me today (wow, talk about procrastination?). As to my account on blogger, I never really got one! Well, I had it for about two weeks and really hated the general "feel" of the site. So I deleted it. I haven't been blogging much, which is suprising seeing as I now have my own computer. However, I'm thinking about starting up my xanga again. It feels good to prattle on about useless everyday occurences every so often. :D

Although I am only a junior in high school, I've been seriously looking around for colleges with Japanese language as a major. When I was searching I came across Middlebury College (in Vermont) which has a 9 week long summer program in Japanese. I am not 100% set on obtaining the language major for my first degree but am still very interested in this program. Have you heard of it? If so, any pro's or con's (any advice, really) would be greatly appreciated!!

I was thinking of you cause I'm going to Japan (Tsushima) from April 14~16!! Yay! It will be nice to be in a country where I can speak some of the language and not feel completely lost, partially thanks to you :-p
