Sensei on the Brain
Okay, I know that I said that the semester is over, but I still have finals. Worse, I have students who forgot to take a quiz or turn in a paper. I scold them, remind them of the evils of being irresponsible and then accept their work, albeit late. Yes, I accept their excuses and let them get away with murder, the death of a sensei.

*sigh*

I don't do this to get on their good side, mind you; I'm simply like that ice cream--a softee. As a result, however, some of my students can't seem to forget me. :) This is a recent IM I received from a former student:

(2006-05-05 00:07:03) ekru: wtf i thought these dreams were supposed to end after graduation!

Oh well, maybe their memories of me aren't always so good.

no, no, you got them good. the reason why they are having these sorta dreams is that you ARE nice to them. the power of guilt is stronger than most other forms of psychological torture.

I accept late work, but their grades are reduced. Some kids turned in some work so late that I should have given them F's, but I gave them D's, instead.

In China late work means failure. That's prob why almost all the Chinese international students I met in college were super diligent. American kids are spoiled.

sensei!!! mou summer hajimemashitaka? next week is my finals period.. so im cramming on 10 papers ima. and one is 20 pages. doushiyou.. im so dead. im sure ur having a blast grading ur papers :)
