Duh, they were supposed to be. Haven't you guys ever heard of Henny Youngman? He is one of the original stand up comics from the 40s-early 60s. While his jokes are very bad, they were the standard once upon a time, and all current comics should know and revere him, although they will agree with you that these jokes are not very funny anymore. The first three jokes--Ladies and Germs, tired arms, and the infamous take my wife, PLEASE--are from his routine that I remember. A student reminded me yesterday that Data on ST:TNG paid a similar homage. When the android was trying to learn "humor", he practiced a comic routine which included the line: Take my Worf... Please! Hahahahhaa. But you gotta know the original to appreciate the parody. This particular line is even included in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations... So how many of you recognized it, I wonder?

Anway, the previous blog included six (6) distinct Xangans besides the Vixen and me. Can you name them? Hint: They are all regular commentors on the O-man's site.

yes...I've watched way too much NBC in my time...generation Y? generation "I"? oh no...generation NBC. It's an epidemic among my peers I tell you.

aite a noticed one was directed at zetton v. The speeding ticket. And im not sure if the guy with the dog painting was me or not but I dont know who else would have a dog painting. But thats all I caught.

The guy with the dog painting is Mr. SammyStorm! as for the others... heh. =) I'll have to reread it. Was I mentioned in there too, Sensei? ^^

I've noticed the recent entries have been written in response to lack of updates. My comment to you, write whatever the hell you want. This is your journal... peeps can just not read whatever they don't want to read. As for you, keep writing, real update or not, I need the reading material at work!

allo- you must've found me through ann's xanga site :) i'm endlessly amused by your updates - it's so cool that you keep your journal so up to date!

i picked ucsd cuz they have a comparable program in plant molecular biology and the phd program is only 5 years (on average) instead of 7 (at stanford). and it's in paradise:) thanks for the input, though! i look forward to keeping up w/ your journal in the future!

Hey, do you know of any good books about japanese culture and japanese history? I have been reading Japan Revised, but it's kinda boring. I wanted to learn more about the culture. Not the economy. :-/

We're showing our age, Oni. I knew what those jokes meant and of their origin. I smiled all the way through your post and thought it was brilliantly fluent. I'm going to shoot myself now. I have just realized that if I were to show up at a kicking party, all the people would be asking, "who's the old dude?" arrrrrrgggggg.......

I remember that, "Take my Worf, please" joke too. That was a funny parody...hehe.
