asked  "Don't you wake up every day feeling how lucky you are to be in the middle of all that? The beauty, history, people, donkeys."

I don't wake up every day thinking that,  and I don't necessarily call it luck either...  I think that in Ireland we have a very concentrated situation..  There are literally thousands of villages and towns dotted around the country.. all close to each other.  It takes 4.5 hours to drive from one side of Ireland to the other.  some 220 miles across.  People I've met have always assumed Ireland is like a little island or something,  but its far from it.

Its lucky that I have fewer miles to drive I suppose

Its true we're rich with culture,  but I think the same can be said for any country...  in terms of photography  I think its the same...  Beauty can be found  anywhere if you bother to go look for it.

I would rate  the grand canyon,  sedona  and Parks AZ  in the same league as connemara...

oh Owen!  These are magnificent!  I don't think I could be more jealous.  I like the tied/tide ones...and where your tent is.....beautiful!!

Tied Up and Sunset were the best out of these

as for beauty in different places, the reason people don't consider their own surroundings is because after all the time they spent it becomes mundane and average to them. while another place, especially if its far away, has this mysterious feel to the images because its not something thats around them everyday...sorta like the cliche you never know what you got until you lose it. not to mention how romanticized Ireland and such places have become compared to America.

its all in the stereotypes people choose to hear

    i can't say i'm immune either

good observation, i'll see if i can observe the same one of these nights to come

    thanks, also

I like your answer to buddhacat. I feel that there's pretty amazing stuff wherever I've lived, but yes, it is far more concentrated in Ireland or in the Northeast US than it is, say, in the American midwest. Of course I've never lived in Indiana - whose congressman compared Baghdad favourably to towns there.

Anyway, it really isn't such a long, long way to Tipperary.

When you gonna go find those Donegal beaches?

"Eye of the beholder," and subjectivity and all that, right?

Beautiful photos, Owen. I went camping this week as well, but I think your photos are better.

RYC:  Oh yes indeed, 'twould be so nice to make money, but if I waited for that, it's a certainty no one would ever read my writing.  You have a quite nice eye with the camera, by the way--I'll drop you a message.

I'll find those Donegal beaches  soon enough...

So Ireland is roughly the same size as Oregon. Which is 300 (est.) miles from Southern border to Northern border. But, more like 400 or 450 miles wide.

My question was rhetorical, Owen. For anybody with their eyes open and their mind awake, it would be difficult to miss the great beauty surrounding you. It's unlike things I'm likely to see where I live, no matter how wide op[en my eyes are. That makes what you show me all the more enchanting. You obviously see this, and you're able to capture the images, but me thinks you take it a wee bit for granted. I'm not sure I'd want to rate beauty and put it in categories.

I feel the same way about beauty being found in everything... and just taking the time to notice the little things. I think the same can be said of joy and laughter... it can be found any where, you just have to look for it.

As for the size of your island... it is truly unique in that it is something not many people experience Island life...

I can't wait to visit someday... I am jealous in fact that my mother in law and sister in law will be visiting there next week and I wasn't invited... of course I would have to abandon my husband with our three children but HEY! I wanna go! lol

The first one and MOrning Glory are my favorites, not that you give a damn.  Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon, or Sedona?  OUtstanding!Sorry my typing is so bad, can't lift my left pinkie finger fast enough, so I end up with multiples of capitals.

    Have a good weekend, Owen....

i loved stoned and tied in.

i spent an entire day at cashel a few years back.

and you're right about connemara. stunningly beautiful.

The Rock......one of our biggest regrets about our trip is that we didn't have or make the time to explore the ruins we shot from afar.  Too Americanized in our thinking....it's behind a fence, ergo, we must not go there.  Won't make that mistake again.
  • Abbs90

It looks so beautiful there.. But yes beauty can can be found anywhere. I would love to go there someday.. I just read a book that talked about Ireland and now I want ot go there. As well as Greece..

    Wonderful photos!
