Speaking as a consummate optimist I can state that sometimes it is denial...lol
Denial is a good place to be, at times.
(for an optomist, I'm pretty pessimistic.)
Denial doesn't work. I can't see being out of touch with reality as something desireable under any circumstance.
Optimism rocks my socks! I'd always rather have a positive outlook on things and then be let down than to always see bad, ya know?

Denial can be one hell of a self protective device.
