IVCF Spring Break Short Term Mission's Trip--Chicago Urban Program
Friday, March 16, 2007
Hi Brother or Sister!
How are you doing? I hope all is going well with you! Well,
here’s some catch up. Spring break has just started today at UIUC (I’m a
freshman at college now, for those I haven’t spoken to for a while). College
has been amazing! Honestly, first semester was a struggle, but God really used
that to let me see what He wants in my life and I am learning so much more
about who I am in Christ and who God is in my life (yes, it’s indescribable)! I
finally found a fellowship that I committed myself to this semester with
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF). God has blessed and challenged me so
much thus far at IV, there is no doubt that I am called to be in this
fellowship and this campus. So things have been going well, praise God!
Well down to business. I know this is very late (sorry it
has been crazy the past month coming into spring break). I am emailing to share
with you that God has given me an awesome opportunity and calling to go on
short term mission’s trip—more specifically, Chicago Urban
Program (CUP)—this week (March 17- 22, 2007) along with a team members from
IV. We are working with Circle Urban Ministries in Chicago. Tasks we will be doing vary,
depending on what needs to be done. But work assignments include: rehab old
buildings, working with kids in an after school program, painting, relational
evangelism, etc. Other activities are training/discussion on the gospel,
reconciliation and racial justice and opportunities to worship with and learn
from ministry partners. So, I’m writing to you because I am asking for you to pray
for me. This is my first organized mission’s trip (I say this because I believe
we all are missionaries). I really don’t know what to expect and I know that I
will be challenged a lot this upcoming week. So, here are some things you can
be praying for:
·
Preparation to learn, to serve without
complaining, to grow in my relationship with Christ.
·
A broken heart—that I may see God and will be
transformed from this experience
·
Team unity and vision
·
Health and Transportation
·
My family (mother, father, and sister)—they
don’t really understand why I am doing this. Pray that they’ll see that this is
ministry something important and part of my life.
·
God will use everyone as vessels for His Kingdom
·
Reception of service from the community
·
Building new relationships
·
Overall, God alone be glorified!
I will really covet and appreciate your prayers. Thank you
so much for reading this and being an important part of my life. I will let you
know how it goes! Take care and God bless!
For His Kingdom,
Jeff
“However, I consider my life worth nothing to
me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has
given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.”
