To many of you Prof. Lorenz is a man whose work is not immediately associated with the mathematician and meteorologist of New England but his work is something that all of us have encountered in pop culture.
The Butterfly Effect. An idea that states that a small and seemingly insignificant action can have larger and more profound impacts later on. From this Prof. Lorenz who was dealing with weather stated that a meteorologist could not predict weather patterns with great accuracy outside of a seven day window. The famous line is that a butterfly flapping its wings in California could create a hurricane in Florida.

I personally think this is very true and can be applied (as it has) to life in general. In your opinion what was a small factor in your own life that had bigger consequences later on?

what a thought-provoking question!
i have experienced the butterfly effect several times in my life. one of the most prominent was when i decided which middle school i would attend. i had the option of going to the local shcool that all my friends would be attending, or going to Computech, wich is a combination junior high and high school for gifted students. i declined to go to Computech because i knew my parents would use it as leverage against me (don't ask, long story! suffice it to say that i grew up in a--for lack of a better word--dysfunctional home). anyway, if i had gone to Computech, i would never have met my husband or had my son! (unless you believe in fate, which i don't. i believe that we create our own fate with the choices we make. although i do believe that God has a plan for us, we have free will.)
thanks for picking my brain. you probably got more than you bargained for. lol.
Every little thing matters. What we do now sets the path for the future.
i really can't think of anything small i've done that has impacted me later on. i think mostly stopping the brain when it goes into frantic panic mode and rebooting everything back in there is probably the smallest thing. keeps you from having panic attacks and makes the other people around you not have to go into rescue mode. i guess that's a good thing. i really can't think of a certain thing i've done specifically though. sometimes doing nothing is better than trying to do everything.
i was thikning mostly about work scenarios though...
Breaking my leg, now I know that sounds like a huge thing but I look at it and say it was a second in time... I was able to play sports again but never in the same way I just never got the speed back...
Ah, that's right! The butterfly effect... I always found that super fascinating.
I saw movie of " butterfly effect " part1-2 ...few difficult story..but perhaps that movie say love effect to good one..*/N
I can't stand science..and am VERY glad I no longer have to teach it..because I don't understand it ...AT ALL!@!
I see it all the time. You say or do something to a child that may seem insignifiant, but it may verry well have a huge impact on them growing up.
Something that had a huge impact on me was this woman telling me that I ask too many questions, and when I was younger I took it the wrong way and hardly ever spoke to anyone or asked about anything ever again. I think that's part of the reason why I'm so shy, or why I don't like to speak my mind.
Interesting post.
RYC: No way! I don't see the point in using cucumbers. Apparently it makes your eyes less puffy, but mine aren't puffy to begin with. Besides, I'd probably eat them before they got the chance to even touch my eyes.
:D
RYQ: When I was in college I majored in Psychology and minored in writing. I wanted to be a minister at one time. Why do you ask. Judi
