Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. Psalm 71:18

Looking unto Jesus.

Hebrews 12:2

It is ever the Holy Spirit's work

to turn our eyes away from self to Jesus;

but satan's work is just the opposite of this,

for he is constantly trying to make us regard ourselves instead of Christ.

He insinuates,

"Your sins are too great for pardon;

you have no faith;

you do not repent enough;

you will never be able to continue to the end;

you have not the joy of His children;

you have such a wavering hold of Jesus."

All these are thoughts about self, and we shall never find comfort or assurance by looking within.

But the Holy Spirit turns our eyes entirely

away from self:

He tells us that we are nothing,

but that "Christ is all in all."

Remember, therefore,

it is not thy hold of Christ that saves thee

—it is Christ;

it is not thy joy in Christ that saves thee

—it is Christ;

it is not even faith in Christ,

though that be the instrument

—it is Christ's blood and merits;

therefore,

look not so much to thy hand

with which thou art grasping Christ,

as to Christ;

look not to thy hope,

but to Jesus,

the source of thy hope;

look not to thy faith,

but to Jesus,

the author and finisher of thy faith.

We shall never find happiness by looking at

our prayers,

our doings,

or our feelings;

it is what Jesus is,

not what we are,

that gives rest to the soul.

If we would at once overcome satan

and have peace with God,

it must be by "looking unto Jesus."

Keep thine eye simply on Him;

let His death,

His sufferings,

His merits,

His glories,

His intercession,

be fresh upon thy mind;

when thou wakest in the morning look to Him; when thou liest down at night look to Him.

Oh!

let not thy hopes or fears

come between thee and Jesus;

follow hard after Him,

and He will

NEVER

fail thee.

C.H. Spurgeon

"My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness:
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name."

Your posts are inspired at times with messages I need to be reminded of or introduced to. It is frustrating to me how distracted I can become with things I should not be focussing on even when God is using me or some one is about to ask me to help them. Oh, what am I looking at other than Jesus? What is worth more? Who has more purpose? I dare not admit all of my distractions due to we each have them in various forms.

   Today, I was in thoughts that were not productive with my eyes and mind distracted. I recieved a phone call from a girl who I consider like an older sister but since has moved to another state yet the phone keeps us close. She called to ask me to pray for her Mother and Grandmother who are consider missing at this time that live in up state New York where the flooding is. She is in Colorado at this time living and in Texas on business. Her Brother who lives in the area of her Mother and Grandmother is a trucker who can't get home due to major bridges washed out and can't leave his load. I pray by morning there is word. Her brother's family is out of state visiting family several states away and safe. Yet, the home in which they live is in question of  conditions. Her phone call was a wake up call as I pray Jesus blood to protect her and many other families affected by the flooding. I pray faith is strenthen in this area of the country.

Hi Carolyn,

 Beautiful post! We are nothing without Jesus Christ. We were talking about this in Sunday School and if we can really get to the point where its not about us but about Jesus then we have accomplished something.

Love ya, Darlena

I'm glad you found what I wrote on Ps121. I heard a song written based on that psalm the other day on the radio. It was one of the popular groups, but now I don't recall which one. Jars of Clay maybe, but I can't recall for sure. It was a good song and really got me thinking about my youth.

I especially like the words to the song you put at the end.  Another of my favorites.  ryc  I agree with you, even Mary needed a saviour.  I got to thinking about my post and I suppose it could be construed that I would support infant baptism.  Not so.  I think that is a choice we make when we are able to understand what Christ has done for us and decide to follow Him.  Thanks for your input.
