"Help, Lord."

Psalm 12:1

The prayer itself is remarkable, for it is short, but seasonable, sententious, and suggestive. David mourned the fewness of faithful men, and therefore lifted up his heart in supplication—when the creature failed, he flew to the Creator. He evidently felt his own weakness, or he would not have cried for help; but at the same time he intended honestly to exert himself for the cause of truth, for the word "help" is inapplicable where we ourselves do nothing.

There is much of directness, clearness of perception, and distinctness of utterance in this petition of two words; much more, indeed, than in the long rambling outpourings of certain professors. The Psalmist runs straight-forward to his God, with a well-considered prayer; he knows what he is seeking, and where to seek it. Lord, teach us to pray in the same blessed manner.

The occasions for the use of this prayer are frequent. In providential afflictions how suitable it is for tried believers who find all helpers failing them. Students, in doctrinal difficulties, may often obtain aid by lifting up this cry of
"Help, Lord," to the Holy Spirit, the great Teacher. Spiritual warriors in inward conflicts may send to the throne for reinforcements, and this will be a model for their request. Workers in heavenly labour may thus obtain grace in time of need. Seeking sinners, in doubts and alarms, may offer up the same weighty supplication; in fact, in all these cases, times, and places, this will serve the turn of needy souls. "Help, Lord,"
will suit us living and dying, suffering or labouring, rejoicing or sorrowing. In Him our help is found, let us not be slack to cry to Him.

The answer to the prayer is certain, if it be sincerely offered through Jesus. The Lord's character assures us that He will not leave His people; His relationship as Father and Husband guarantee us His aid; His gift of Jesus is a pledge of every good thing; and His sure promise stands, "Fear not, I WILL HELP THEE."
C.H. Spurgeon

Amen, these are words to remember  -- like a little child yells, "mommy help" or "daddy help", we need to "yell" Father help!  ryc, thank you for the sweet comment and comforting encouragement.  I've left it in the Lord's hands and that has helped a great deal, no fretting over it.  My cousins don't have that comfort, though, hence my prayer request for them.  Love in Him, Gerrie

"hisprayerwarrior" comments are a beautiful additional to your blog. How many of us want to be independant of our parents at times even at a young age that can get us into so much trouble. We do our own things. Praise God the love of our Heavenly Father is stronger than our parents love for us even. Yet, we have to make a choice to humble ourselves to be able to ask "Help Lord". I can't believe my own poor choices and strong will at times even in "good" things but could be that much better if they would line up with "God's will" or waiting on his answer instead of my own impatience. David knew where his help came from.....

Weekend & weather? I'm blessed to cool 12 hour night shifts on every other weekend Fr-Su. This is a weekend to work as I get called to whatever is needed. When I go to work, I don't know what the challenges will be when people call for "help". Yet, tonight, I have already been proposed to by an intoxicated male along with other sorts of calls. Yet, I know with my job that when we respond to calls for "help" that I know where my "help" comes from to help the ones who do call. God does not let us down and sees the bigger picture. There are things I might not understand why, but I know God is in control. When I hear one I'm helping, pray to God for help it is sweet fellowship due to when two or more are gathered together and agree on earth.......we can pray together at times. I pray each time I stick for God's help.

Amen! Praise the Lord for His timely help.

Saints, I also love this song, which reminds me of His lovingkindness:

God has not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through.
God has not promised sun without rain
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God has promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way.
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

God has not promised we shall not know
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe.
God has not promised we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.

God has not promised smooth roads, and wide.
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide.
Never a mountain: rocky and steep,
Never a river: turbid and deep.

You can check out lots more songs on www.hymnal.net

Grace be with you all, saints.
