The Name of Jesus
by Alan Smith

Paul Harvey told about a 3-year-old boy who went to the grocery store with his mother. Before they entered the grocery store she said to him, “Now you’re not going to get any chocolate chip cookies, so don’t even ask.”
She put him up in the cart and he sat in the little child’s seat while she wheeled down the aisles. He was doing just fine until they came to the cookie section. He saw the chocolate chip cookies and he stood up in the seat and said, “Mom, can I have some chocolate chip cookies?”

She said, “I told you not even to ask. You’re not going to get any at all.” So he sat back down.
They continued down the aisles, but in their search for certain items they ended up back in the cookie aisle. “Mom, can I please have some chocolate chip cookies?” She said, “I told you that you can’t have any. Now sit down and be quiet.”
Finally, they were approaching the checkout lane. The little boy sensed that this may be his last chance. So just before they got to the line, he stood up on the seat of the cart and shouted in his loudest voice, “In the name of Jesus, may I have some chocolate chip cookies?” And everybody round about just laughed. Some even applauded. And, according to Paul Harvey, due to the generosity of the other shoppers, the little boy and his mother left with 23 boxes of chocolate chip cookies.
The name of Jesus is powerful indeed! Many activities in the New Testament were carried out in the name of Jesus with powerful results:
In the name of Jesus, prayers were offered and God heard and answered (John 16:23-24).
In the name of Jesus, people were baptized and found forgiveness of sin (Acts 2:38)
In the name of Jesus, men were healed of their ailments and demons were cast out (Acts 4:10; 16:18)
Be careful not to make the mistake of thinking there’s some kind of magical power in saying the word “Jesus”. To do something “in the name of” someone is to do it by their authority and therein lies the power. When we do something by the authority of Jesus (or to put it another way, if we do something because Jesus told us to do it), the results will always be powerful. In fact, EVERYTHING we do and say should be done in the name of Jesus (Colossians 3:17).
May our preaching, our teaching, and all that we say and do be done in the name of Jesus for, as Peter said:
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

That was really good, Carolyn. We have no idea of the authority we have in Christ. Thanks for the reminder and may we all experience life with an increasing understanding of His authority that has been conveyed to us.

Bless you dear friend.

i am loving that little boy... for having the courage to stand up and ask Jesus for the chocolate chip cookies he wanted.  what many of us may have thought a silly request was not a silly request to that little boy.  it just goes to prove that when we say "in the name of Jesus" powerful things can happen!  does the Bible not tell us in Psalm 37 that God will give us the desires of our heart!  :sunny:

I like what you said about in His authority. Many believers feel it is not, just magically words and if I do not get it perhaps it is because of me. We as believers have to see it is His choice and when He says NO or Wait it means He has someting better in mind.

:goodjob: I like this!

I have a friend who will rebuke every negative word spoken to her in Jesus name. She does it rather unashamedly too.

As she spoke about her teenage daughter, another woman said, "girl please, it only gets worse!" My friend said, " No, she will not get worse in Jesus name!"

She would talk about the bad things her daughter did, then end it w/, she will stop doing that in Jesus name!

I thought she was wacked for the longest time, but ya know what, her daughter did stopped doing drugs and all the things her Mom complained about! - Amazing isn't it?

My oldest stepson said that our 4yr old boy WOULD totally be exposed to porn by the time he was in school, he said, other kids will bring it to school and show him. - I said, "No, in the name of Jesus, he will NOT! I ask God to break that word curse in Jesus name! - So far, so good!:):goodjob:

Woo, sorry  I left such a long comment!!

† God Bless!:spinning:

ryc: Yes my Mom is in the hospital, they wont release her until she's able to eat on her own. She's not staying awake very long at all, she's in a lot of pain (due to her broken leg) and they have her back on morphine.

Regarding, JOY, I was doing a study on bible gateway.com on joy and found no more verses passed the book of Jude...I thought that was very interesting.

Have a wonderful week, and have fun watching Deal or No
Deal, I am finished with my volleyball season now, so I
think that I can watch it now, because I'll have time on
my hands. But anyway, have fun at your bible
studies.... what day are they on? Mine are on a
wednesday night..... Oh!!! I meant to tell you that
I asked my principal if I could start a bible study,
(cause you have to have permission) But, she said that
it is fine with her, but she has to talk about it in a
meeting w/ all the teachers tomorrow to find out if it is
ok w/ everyone, so pray that they will make the right
decision about it and that I can start a bible study with
Benjamin (the one who I stood up for). But have a wonderful
week!!!!!!

Talk to you later!!!!!
