Prayer Request
God knows her name and that's enough for me...
Diagnosis: “Scans confirm doctor’s suspicions that she has cancer of the lymph nodes in her upper abdomen. On January 8th, she will go to the hospital for biopsies which should take 4 to 6 hours. Two or three days later she will get the results. Please pray with me for a complete healing—like the kind that confounds the medical people—and gives God the glory. Also pray that she can have inner peace while she waits for the 8th and that she will feel the closeness of God and the arms of Jesus wrapped around her. Pray that she will get the rest she needs and that God will guard her thoughts and lift her spirits. We all love her very much and pray she knows how important and precious she is to each of us. Thank you, c”
What Happens When You Pray?
What Happens When I Pray?
Our answer is found in chapters 18 and 19 of the Book of Genesis; where Abraham intercedes for his nephew Lot and his family. Look at the story—and you’ll see FIVE exciting things happen as Abraham prayed.
Number One—Abraham’s attitude changed. It doesn’t take much imagination to sense that Abraham was worried, terribly worried, over the proposed fate of his nephew’s family. But he did more than worry—and he talked to God about the matter. And as he communed with the Lord, his attitude changed. He understood that God was fair, just, willing to save the godly. Into a heart once filled with fear came trust.
Number Two—God’s Attitude Changed. God’s Holiness demanded that these twin cities of wickedness be destroyed. Abraham didn’t try to change that, but he did appeal to God’s mercy. And the Lord responded by promising that the repentant would be spared. When we pray, we do what Abraham did—we appeal to His tender mercies and His loving kindness. Repentance does change God’s relationship to a person. The judgment of God, which is binding, is transformed to Jesus allowing God to show His mercy toward men.
Number Three—The Spirit World Changes when we pray. The Bible makes it clear that we aren’t just wrestling against spirits—wickedness in high places. Prayer shifts the balance of power.
Thank God, there is supernatural help available when we pray. And, as someone has observed, there are two angels in heaven for every demon in hell because one-third of the angels followed Lucifer in his sintrek. So rejoice, Shipmate, God has angelic power available for your loved ones just as he had for Uncle Abraham’s nephew.
Number Four—Circumstances are changed when we pray. All conditions were “go” for destruction from outer space for Sodom and Gomorrah. But God delayed judgment long enough to get the Lot family out of Sodom and into better circumstances. Why? Because Abraham was praying.
After telling you these four “changes,” I’m sure you can guess what Number Five is—prayer changes the person for whom we’re praying.
It is quite apparent that Lot was in a backslidden condition at this time. In the natural, he wanted to stay where his business interests were. But Abraham’s prayer changed all that. Lot alerted his wife, daughters and their husbands to flee the twin-city area. Abraham prayed. I can’t explain it—but often something happens in the hearts of the people we’re fervently praying for.
Mrs. Taylor felt impressed to drop to her knees and pray for her rebellious teenage son many miles away. Suddenly, the son was motivated to read a Gospel tract in his father’s study, and before long he had received Christ as his Savior. His name? J. Hudson Taylor, one of the greatest missionaries this world has ever known. Mother prayed—God changed her son! That’s not a formula—but God did it!
Lest we should feel unworthy to pray, James reminds us that “Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are but he prayed . . . and the heavens gave forth rain.”
Elijah’s praying changed him from a coward to a champion . . . changed the local weather forecast . . . unleashed the powerful allies of the spirit world . . . changed the circumstances from the drought to deluge . . . and changed the attitudes of those with whom Elijah came in contact.
Prayer offers the same wonderful life to you—a life of power and victory.
Five wonderful things happen when you pray.
So why not lift your heart heavenward in prayer right now? Remember, God’s only a prayer away! ~Paul Evans

The same year I invited Jesus into my heart (1964), a Christian radio station signed on in Minot, North Dakota. What a blessing they were to me! One of my favorite programs was the ‘Haven of Rest’. Their words were very encouraging to this new pilgrim. I have quite a collection of their Logs and have kept them ALL these years.
