Basic Foundation Tutorial : Liquid, Cream & Powder
Have you ever been asked this question "If you were stuck on an
island, what one item would you have?" We all know the right answer is
a working GPS but let me rephrase this question and ask " If you were
stuck on an island, what one cosmetic item would you have?" My answer,
Foundation. Why? Because it evens out your skintone, double up as a
concealer and can block the harmful sun rays and air pollution.
And to apply it on correctly is very important, but it can be easily done. I will show you my easy steps.
My Basic Foundation Video
You DO NOT apply all this on at once. I am covering 3 different types of foundation.
Liquid, cream OR powder foundation. Sorry for the confusion.
You will need:
A makeup sponge, PLEASE do not use your hands. Your hands contains
natural oils which tends to mess up your foundation application. Plus,
this will keep your application cleaner!
You can choose from the following -
Liquid Foundation. The coverage tends to be from sheer to medium. This
is the most natural looking foundation. Finding the right color is
tricky, we will get to that later.
To the right we have Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Cream, which is what
I used in the video tutorial. This is currently my favorite liquid
foundation (even though it says cream, the texture is liquid). This
foundation is infused with caffiene and has SPF for only for $7.00
dollars. I must add, it is very similar to Chanel Vitalumiere, but for
only fraction of the price ($54.50) ...and I believe it works better.
Here we have Cream foundation. The coverage is very heavy, but it can
look natural if applied the correct way. I used Mac Studio Fix
Foundation Cream in the video. Cream foundation is not my favorite
though, I always feel like I am caked with makeup no matter how little
I apply.
Powder Foundation - The sheerest of all foundation. It feels like you
have nothing on your face. If you need more coverage, I recommend
mineral makeup which is what I used in the video tutorial. Everyday
Minerals Foundation in Fairly Light. Also, do not forget a powder
brush!
When applying liquid or cream foundation, I like to dot the foundation
across my face to get an even consistency. This will also keep you from
over using your foundation. From there, blend it over your face,
FOLLOWING your hairline. This is important because if you do not follow
your hairline, your peach fuzz will stick up and give an appearence of
a rough face. Do not be afraid of blending downwards, it will not make
your skin sag. That is just a myth and even if you blend upwards,
gravity will pull it back down so it is a lost cause in the end. Dot,
blend following hairline and apply more IF needed.
For powder, sweep it across the face like how I demonstrated in the
video. After lightly brushing it on, take the brush and pat it across
your face to enhance the coverage. You have to see the video to get
what I mean.
