No, I haven't read Lorna Doone. The excerpt above should demonstrate why: I like old writing styles, but that one is simply too convoluted. It's too bad too even be funny for very long.
I wish I could find Lord Peter's quote about clothes. I think it's in Murder Must Advertise.
