As you can probably guess, the first picture is my Grandma and Grandad, and if you're really good..*wink* you can gather than the next is us grandkids with them. If this is what you guessed, then kudo's to you. You've qualified for a free comment on my site!!! If you didn't guess that...well, I suppose you can still have a free comment...but keep it short...I charge by the letter Alllright, end to the sillyness.
As some of you might've known, my family went down to Abbeville, SC to be with some of the rest of my Aunt's, Uncles and cousin's to celebrate my dad's parents 50th wedding anniversary. One of the complications we knew was going to come up, was the fact that my grandfather has been a Alzheimer patient for the past half-decade or more. He has been quickly losing more and more of his memorie's, to include knowing how to get dressed, and other common daily functions.
We recently moved him to an assisted living facilty, because of the drain it was continuing to be on my grandmother to have him at home. Since then we have been more than very impressed with the staff and general "facility's." This is a place that, when you walk in, you can't tell that older people live there. The staff are on constant rotation, and are very adept in communicating lovingly and caringly to the patients - especially it seems to my grandad.
Now, all this being known, our family still decided that it would be a good thing to come down and visit and commemorate the fifty faithful years that my grandparents have been married. Having just come back this evening from that, I can tell you right now that that decision was a good one. Even though my grandfather had to be told constantly by my grandmother why all these people were here, he never ceased saying, "Thank you," and "You don't know how much this means to me." It was hard seeing his state of being, but we were all so amazed by the fact that his love, his care, his affection for my grandma was never dimmed or dulled. My dad had told us all before we came down to visit, that grandad was going to be very much not the same; but nonetheless, this was something we needed to do to honor the man that my grandfather has been all his life. This was something that went far beyond being "a good thing."
I want to thank all of you who prayed/who have been praying for my grandad and grandma through this time, and for this trip in specifically. It was quite apparent that y'all were praying. My grandma kept on saying that it could not have gone better...so I thank you. God Bless you all, and please keep these two precious people in your prayers, I know they appreciate it. In His Service,
-Tim |
