  • It looks like we might actually be in the eleventh hour for hockey for real now.  It was shocking to me to find out that the NHL Player's Association finally agreed to a salary cap, something they have been saying they would never accept under any circumstances, and in large part, the reason for the hockey lockout.  Owners have been losing so much money in the past several years with the players collecting 75% of league revenues.  However, I was even more surprised to learn that the owners actually rejected the player's offer of a salary cap.  It's what they've been wanting, and after all this time they want to quarrel about the number of the salary cap.  Gary Bettman (NHL commissioner) wants it at $42 million, and the players are saying $49 million.  He's saying he won't come down any further and that it's too late for negotiations.

It seems incredibly petty to me seeing as last year 22 teams out of 30 didn't come close to spending $42 million.  Either way, if the players don't accept the proposal by 11am later today, Bettman is scheduled to announce the cancellation of the NHL season at noon.

    Here's hoping...
