I'm under the impression that people just really don't care about those patriotic songs, nor do they care about the content, nor do they understand; if they understood, they would care.
It's all about the fireworks, right?
Boom-boom, pop-pop, crackle-crackle. Yay. Freedom. Oh, you mean hundreds of thousands died for my freedom? Well, I'm so important, I don't have time to consider, or look into those things. I'd rather watch the fireworks.
Boom-boom, pop-pop, crackle-crackle.
Constitution? Heh, yeah, that's really important. Declaration of Independence, you mean that thing we wrote that has the philosophy of the American spirit? Yeah, that's important too. But I'm to selfish and stupid to want to think about that, I'm just going to light some firecrackers.
Boom-boom, pop-pop, crackle-crackle.
Yes, I'm in a bad rambly mood (tooth-ache ).
Don't get me wrong. I watched the fireworks. That's not the problem.
When the crowds go home, when fireworks die, when we're all alone, do we think of the cause; do we think of the cost?
I can hear them tonight, their words are clear, "liberty or death, victory or defeat, our choice is before us, we'll do what's right."
I can see it now, when the fireworks stop, the men who were young, but old enough to die.
I can feel it now, when the music fades away, the passion in their heart, that made them want to give, just so we could all have.
I can see it now, when I lay down, how many don't really care anymore, about those who laid down their lives.
I watch them now, when I'm not alone, and see ignorance in their eyes.
All they ever knew, when worst came to worst, was the beauty of freedom.
Do they understand what we're doing now, or is it just to them what it is in the sky?
What would they do, if the fireworks aren't good, will they think "what a sad Independence Day", will they forget the reason we're here?
