Hounddog: Cold Crime Reheats- Part 2

On July 18th, the North Carolina Chapter of Concerned Women For America, a leading national organization in the field of child protection, brought the issue of the film "Hounddog" to the forefront once more.  Their spokeslady, Donna Miller, issued this statement on her group's behalf.

"We request that the North Carolina General Assembly appoint an independent investigation (to) determine why the North Carolina Film Office approved the making of the film 'Hounddog' and whether North Carolina law officials were consulted.  Also:  Provide information from the North Carolina Department of Commerce as to how three movies ('Hounddog', 'Bastard Out of Carolina' and 'Lolita') were filmed in North Carolina dealing with the subject of adults having sexual encounters with minors.  'Hounddog' was so controversial that it did not receive distributorship until recently."

"Both the North Carolina Film Office and Department of Commerce are North Carolina tax-funded, and, as North Carolina citizens, we oppose the use of any tax dollars that are spent on endeavors that at best can be described as the sexualization of children and at worst the normalization of sexual relations between children and adults.  North Carolina citizens do not want their film legacy to be represented by such films as 'Hounddog'."

Published with the article was a document from the NC Film Office entitled "Film Production Tax Credits/Returns Received During Calendar Year 2007".  Note that the North Carolina state government distributes a 15% rebate to filmmakers on the production costs of ANY movie shot in the state.  These figures were listed.

Taxpayer Name And Counties:  Hounddog Productions LLC Brunswick New Hanover.

Goods....................$697,298

Services.................$750,522

Compensation......$1,116,042

Total Expenses.....$2,583,842

People Employed.............182

Cost of Credits........$387,576

Readers will note that the last figure amounts to 15% of "Total Expenses".  That's what the taxpayers of that state perforce put into the pockets of the worst child pandering Hollywood filmmakers to date... and in their name.  Note further that by 2007, the name of Full Moon Films (founded and presided over by writer/director Deborah Kampmeier) had disappeared and was replaced by an obscure entity called "Hounddog Productions LLC".  Thanks to men like Tre Benson, Ted Baehr, Bill Donohue, Larry Klayman, Sean Hannity and other staunch citizens, the pornographers had been forced undercover.

If anyone wishes to see justice done on this vital and basic question of child decency, please contact your elected representatives on all levels.  This is not just a North Carolina issue, but a national one.  A note of encouragement to NC State Senator Phil Berger (R-Rockingham), who has taken a personal interest in this issue from the beginning, would not be amiss.  Also:  Please contact Concerned Women For America and/or The National Association To Protect Children (protect.org- headquartered in Asheville NC) to register your support.  I'm a member of both organizatiions and endorse them for their good works.

This may- finally!- prove to be the crack in Hollywood's masonry that brings their children's "rape-room" crashing down.  One can only hope.  But too many such prior hopes have been dashed by the Industry's corruptive and seductive power on politicians and legal officials.  It is a mighty power indeed.  But so is the power of decent citizens who stand together for the sake of the most precious resource of all... America's children.  If all such persons stand together on this question, Hollywood's rotten (but gaily festooned) walls will go the way of Jericho's.  Let's be among them.

Thanks for the heads-up on this disheartening trend in the film industry. I have yet to understand why it is against the law to have a child under 16 work in McDonald's or at Target, but it is perfectly fine for a child of ANY age to do a film or play that is obviously adult in theme. Why a child is exploited like this remains a tragedy. I hope people will start to rally against the obviously hypocritical exploitation of children in the acting business. Count me in!!

Dear YLG:

Thank you for stopping by.  You raise a good point, too.  As in so many aspects of the modern culture, the child laws- local, state and federal- are haphazard, loophole ridden and spottily enforced.  When it comes to a huge and politically well-connected business like the entertainment field (Hollywood in particular) many legal officials turn a blind eye.

The story of "Hounddog" itself is an exemplary case.  The fact that porn is profitable is well known!  Now, however, it has now intruded openly into the worst form of pornography imaginable.  That trusted legal officials have disregarded, stonewalled and even voiced support for such endeavors is, perhaps, the most frightening aspect of this whole affair.  Many films- especially now- place children in R and PG13 rated films replete with every human vice under the sun.  "Hounddog" was virtually unique in that, for the first (major) time, children were used directly in sexual enactments with adults and with each other in an American film.  And that IS child porn.

Hollywood now knows that, if they play it right, they can get away with it.  And in Hollywood, profit and ego mean everything.  All else- to include the very souls of innocent children; nothing.

Dear Folks:  I need to update the above narrative.  Several days ago, I learned through a secondary source that "Hounddog" had been yet again rescheduled for release- this time to September 19th.  No official announcement has been issued by Empire Film Group nor a reason given.  The source (which is usually reliable) cited the reason as being "The Dark Knight"'s successful run in theaters and its being held over in many.  This seems plausible.  Yet it marks the third successive date.  The reschedule was confirmed by a check of the National Amusement, Inc. website.  I have also learned that AMC Theaters will be offering "Hounddog" in selected locations... such as Atlanta.  It will not, however, be available in the Houston area.  I will post any further developments as they become available.

I heard also that The Dark Knight was the reason Hounddog was pushed back. I think that if that's true, they needed to have stated that before TDK came out projecting it's inevitable popularity. I still want to see Hounddog, and the more I see previews the more I want to see it. It sounds interesting, albeit sad.

btw, have you ever seen the movie Thirteen? I caught the second half on TV a week or so ago and it's content is very inappropriate for 13 year olds (which some of the actors were!). I don't know about the sex scenes as I didn't see that part(s). I heard once that Vanessa Hudgens(who's hardly in it) posed nude b/c of that movie, but I don't think that's proven, and I'm honestly more concerned about the comments I saw on imdb.com saying girls tried things b/c of that movie! I will be interested to see the boards of Hounddog once it premiers, provided it ever does (which I think it will, but I also have to laugh everytime it gets pushed back, especially sincce some are proclaiming how it WILL be seen shortly!).

Well I have to go but I will be back here, hopefully soon. I guess I've probably missed a lot but I'll catch up! lol

Dear Amber:

I haven't seen "Thirteen", but I have heard about it.  I shouldn't be surprised to hear that Vanessa Hudgens had a part in it.  Certainly, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it influenced her later actions.  As I've often pointed out, such things historically do with child actors.  "Pretending leads to reality", as Paul Petersen once said.  The great tragedy here (as with "Hounddog") is that underaged viewers are likewise influenced.  And nothing draws in the perverts better than child stars being sexually degraded on film.

The good news is that culture watchers in a number of prominent groups are alert.  In regards to "Hounddog" itself, I've been getting some very positive feedback from a number of organizations that I've contacted.  Still a lot of work to do, though.  Like you, I've had a busy summer... full of overtime work!  That's why I've posted so few columns.  Research and messenging has taken priority.

And I still have a few columns to do that I promised a while back.  Look for a new one today or tomorrow.
