| | “…The skies of
November turn gloomy.”
My eyes are remarkable for the fact
that they are grey. Most people who say
they have grey eyes actually just have a rather bland shade of blue. Not
me. I’m totally flat, non-descript
grey. I once had a girl tell me that my
eyes were the color of the skies in November.
It was flattering. Of course,
another told me that my eyes were the color of a rotting corpse. That one flattered; not so much.
No updates lately. I’ve been rather busy lately. Working on the boat and traveling. I scrubbed the keel, and cleaned out the
bilges. Now there’s a gross job for
you. I had to throw away my
clothes. Take a mix of water and dirty
oil and shut it up in a warm, dark place for a few months and you have an idea
what I was dealing with. A slurry of
what seemed like black sewage. It was
disgusting, and physically demanding work, but satisfying at the same
time.
I visited St. Vladimir’s Seminary in
NYNY last week. That was pleasant. I like New York quite a bit, and the seminary was
lovely. Lots of women in kerchiefs and
men in long beards. A surprising number
of Indian Orthodox there. I didn’t expect to see monophysites there, but I
suppose if they’ll take Uniates, they’ll take anyone. An amusing anecdote: The Orthodox liturgy is quite formal, but the
people’s participation is much less formal than in western churches. There are no pews, and the people whisper to
each other. Children are allowed to sit
on the floor and play a bit, so long as they aren’t disruptive. I attended Divine Liturgy while I was there,
and a couple of children got a bit noisy. Their mother was rather annoyed, and grabbed
them in each of her hands. She still had
them in hand when she went up for communion, and the elderly Russian priest who
was presiding smiled at her and in his rich, Russian accent said kindly: “Darlink,
our god is a god of freedom!” She smiled
sheepishly and loosened up on the kids.
Very sweet.

desire, do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained.”

Audio Clip of the
Day:
Can
be found here. Grats to Buddahgazelle who correctly identified the
last clip as coming from “Monty Python’s
Search for the Holy Grail”. That was an easy one. Scoring is as follows: Buddahgazelle6,
Butterfly4, ChrisRusso6, DarkArtAlliance2, Darklao2, LaLune2.
And now for your
moment of zen;
