Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing

Heard on the high seas today:
Tourist: pointing towards land, “How far does the shoreline go?”
Me: blinks “Umm… the whole way around, I think.”

Being that I have brain damage that seriously affects my memory, lists and other mnemonic aids are of great use to me.  When Amazon came out with their wish list, I though this would be a great thing, so I made an account and everything I see something interesting, or someone recommends something to me, I put it on my Amazon wish list.  Unfortunately, now every time I look at it I have to keep asking myself “What the hell did I want that thing for?”  As I generally have no recollection of adding half of this stuff.  And the bizarre range of items I have on my list has messed up Amazon’s recommendation engine to the extent that it is offering me everything from books on Yourba religion to autoerotic massaging devices. ::sigh::

PS.  I find the singer formerly known as Prince who is once again known as Prince to be really freaking creepy.

I’ve also put a new post on Don’t Forget This Poem

Quote of the day:
"I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later."
    ~Mitch Hedberg

And now, for your moment of zen:

Amazon's recommendation engine is dubious to begin with.  It's telling me that I would be interested in things that are of no interest to me because I purchased something or put something on my wish list that is.  The kicker is that what is being recommended to me is usually not in the slightest bit similar to what it is that led Amazon to believe that I would be interested in it.  If anyone can determine why I'd be interested in Buffy the Vampire Slayer because I've read James Joyce, or why I would want an Alan Jackson CD because I have a Bohuslav Martinu symphony on my wish list, then that person should work for the CIA.
