Family Traditions
Featured Grownups Here is topic 1 for April: .
Family TraditionsWhen I was growing up if you were too sick for school you were too sick for anything else... you had to stay in your PJs and lay on the couch; you would eat only chicken soup or milk toast
Do you recall traditions from your childhood or some that you brought your children up with --bedtime rituals, weekend routines perhaps..things you found out just your family did?
I am not even sure we ever had any specific traditions growing up. I was an only child and my younger years when mom stayed home and we possibly made traditions I don't quit remember.
Now that I am older and with a family of my own I try to make traditions.
Eating together as a family
Thanksgiving at Grandma's, Christmas at our house
Christmas morning: see what is in the stockings, eat breakfast, kids open gifts, prep dinner, hubby and I do our gifts slowly while the kids destroy the house.
sleeping in on sundays
making cookies at least every 2 months with kids help baking or decorating.
Being a family that spends time together.

I love family traditions like that. My family doesn't have too many, but I hope to have some when I start a family of my own.
Sleeping in sounds like a wonderful tradition to me!
@PrincessFiveandDime - What I wouldn't give to sleep in tomorrow...but I have to work!
Man I remember so many of those things. I have a huge family and we still do a lot of that. Our significant others usually don't understand the bond we all have with our family.
I could use some cookies.
Spending time together is very important. . .and it is a learned behavior so I'm glad you make time for that! We did that as much as we possibly could with me at home and hubby working nights.~Jeri

Good, basic, sound traditions. Heartwarming to know such traditions still exist. If there were more such traditions, we wouldn't be having all the school troubles we read about almost weekly...and among third graders yet!!!
Nice post.
@lovelostforever3 - {cookies for you{ I was an only child and a latchkey kid most of the time...only holiday traditions were done growing up.
@Jeri_Dee - it is hard when your schedules are weird. Hubby and mine are and sometimes time together is hard.
@Featured_Grownups - thank-you!
@dsullivan - thank-you! yeah that is very sad....
I need to give our family traditions a thought. It is great that you are trying to build family traditions.
@Zeal4living - Thank-you! Its been a struggle for me to become the person I am now, a part of the family, but I have succeeded!
Eating together as a family was always been a big thing in my house. Both of my parents believed that family meals (where we actually sat around a table and talked to each other) were important for not only them but also for myself and my two sisters!
@couldquitepossiblybeme - I agree and believe that if more people took the time to sit and talk with their kids the world will be a better place.
We eat together as a family, mainly it is the evening meal.
@phil_leafman - That is the best time. To be together and share the ups and downs of your day!
I am the mother of an only child. I tried to carry on some traditions that I had growing up, but it is different with only one child. I imagine if you ask my son, he would say there were no traditions..., alas!
Hugs, Tricia
