| | Today marks the half-way point. I am just about half-way from trepidation and excitement. Why? Well, on November 1st, I will join tens of thousands, at least, in a frenetic and frantic 30-day marathon towards the completion of a 50,000 word novel.
Yes, every November, all over the world is NaNoWriMo. And yes, I signed up again to become a NaNo-er.
The great thing this year, which heightens my excitement, is that I won't have to worry about finding myself in preparation to be tossed to the bowels of tax season in the U.S. Last year, I was working busily to get my clients ready to meet with their tax preparers, CPAs and financial advisors. I tried earnestly to write a novel, but fizzled out, before I even began.
This year, however, I will be in London. And, while I will be working full-time, I will be a temp in a non-tax-season mode. Yea! While I fed off the energy that began around October & didn't end until April 15th, I am looking forward to being able to channel my energy & time towards a novel.
I will be approaching this differently than I have in the past, as I plan to draft a letter to solicit donations from my friends & family. NaNoWriMo is an annual event that relies on participants' donations to be successful. The website, which improves every year, and its maintenance ain't cheap, even with volunteer computer geek, I mean, guru, help. There's also the paperwork and facilitation of the youth chapter of NaNoWriMo.
Sooo ... in the next couple of days, I will e-mail my letter to everyone I know, hoping to raise some support & motivation for writing my novel & this worthy cause. I support people when they participate in marathons & the like for charity, so hopefully I'll be able to convince a few to return the support.
I'm going to post my letter on this 'blog as well, because I have a few visitors who take the time to read my ramble & babble and who will either join me next month in the craziness that comes with creativity, or will be able to make a donation or 2.
On another note, I attended the 4th National Black Writers and Publishers Conference in Manchester. To be honest, I had low expectations mainly because it was a very sporty weekend & I expected turnout to be low. While I anticipated there would be good information to glean from attending, I really wasn't sure of the overall attendance.
Well, I received my attendee information and my excitement increased. I'll save my thoughts on the conference & a wee bit of re-cap for another post later today, because I need to include my lodging at the Best Western - Willow Bank.
But, I will say that the conference exceeded my expectations, but also provided more than I would've or could've expected. And my lodging? Let's just say that I plan to return to Manchester, which was one of my fave cities in England anyway, but that I plan to return to the BW - Willow Bank. Yes, I was *that* pleased.
My "currently reading" selection was published by Tamarind Limited, one of the publishers on the panel at the conference.
Peace,
Moi
