  • Cool Yule My sister drove down from Georgia on Wednesday, and went back on Friday.  When I have a long drive like that, my usual rule is that I have to spend as much time at my destination as I do on the road, or it's just not worth it, but she evidently felt differently.

For such a short visit we got a lot done: took stuff to Goodwill, loaded up my sister's van with some of the furniture that she wants her daughter to have, went by Wachovia Securities to sign some more paperwork related to the distribution of my father's IRA, rearranged some stuff in the house to start putting the furniture where I want it to eventually go, and (most important to me) started to unpack my books.  My sister, who wakes up in the morning well before I normally do, arranged things while I was sleeping, so it'll be interesting trying to figure out her classification scheme.

I've been feeling like I was camping out.  Now I begin to feel like I'm moving in.  Home is where the books are, just not when they're still packed away.

The holiday garlands on the Norfolk pine tree were hand-knitted by me, in five different combinations of four different kinds of eyelash yarn.  If anybody asks, Crystal Palace yarns Squiggle and Splash make the best combination.

  • Home is where the books are - love that.

I'd never let my sister organize my stuff. I'd never figure out the system!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  • Glad to hear that you are starting to feel like you have a home! Happy xmas to you, and the best of things for the new year!

We are hoping that you have mail forwarding working from your apartment!!!
  •    I can't imagine anyone arranging my books the way I like them. My mother is always complaining that my books aren't arranged by size and my sister just gets bugged-out eyes when she looks at my book shelves, though she did try to understand my system recently(which is based on Dewey Decimal).

Your sister must be full of energy to get so much done in such a short time & between long drives as well. That's impressive.

I like the live pine tree(applause!), what long branches it has. Cool garland, what a unique idea.

       Merry Christmas!

  • I love the tree. I agree that home is where the books are. I somehow shocked my grandma, who was amazed I read when she gave a borders gift card for Christmas. She should know me...I love reading.
