Hah! I finally got on the diningroom computer again this evening, and I've added over 1,700 words to my story! I now have about 7,500 words in 13 short chapters (they can always be fleshed out more later, if necessary). The hero is more dead than alive, but he is safely tucked in bed with his loyal valet at his side, and the mistress of the dragon is praying really hard for him to recover. So of course he has to live. I think he will make a miraculous recovery from various unspecified/undiagnosed internal injuries, but the broken bones will take a little longer...
