| Although I´ve had many weekends here in the DR so far, I felt compelled for no reason at all to write about this one in particular. On Friday, October 13th after school, the usual 3 minute walk home and than waiting in the hot early afternoon dominican sun for ringing the doorbell for the haitian lady to buzz me in. Than I ate a typical lunch of rice and beans with chicken, changed my clothes and went to my final spanish class, when that shit was over at 5 I returned to my house showered and than went to meet my friends at Alessandro´s house. Whilste there we debated at length the valor of each others clothing and came to the conclusion that yes, indeed we did look suitable to go out. We than agreed that the drinks in the nightclub were overpriced and decided to eat at a burger king establishment and than buy beverages at a liquor store for a fraction of the price. We made our valiant journey to the discoteque on foot and in public cars, and after ten minutes arrived at the door with our previously purchased tickets. The cartoonishly large bouncer debated the validity of the ages we had given and proceeded to check my friends ID, but with my broken spanish I was able to ask the man, ¨what do you want me to pull my passport out of my ass?¨ He than, obviously frightened of my whit and fearing another stinging retort proceeded to open the door, although ealy we entered the glimmering sausage fest that was Tribeca at nine on a friday, but with time more and more women arrived. I encountered another exchange student from northern italy who is quite a bore to talk to but yet I felt compelled to talk with him throughout the night, also species of female variety from my class arrived. The inquired to my feelings and asked me if I wanted to dance, I replied no, yet somehow throughout the night was forced to move my akward anglo asscheeks for all of 2 minutes. See this is what I never unterstood about the people who love nightclubs; for me, I enjoy loud music and irregular patterned lighting as much as the next person, but some people get so into it that they leave their boddies you know? They think their in a music video or something....I think its a mixture of lighting, deafening bass, and alcohol that bring this on, lets face it, the human brain is no match for that. After climbing through a sea of gelled hair and collared shirts my friends and I managed to climb the precipice to the level overlooking the nightclub and from their I could see over 30 people at one time checking their cellphones,....I must say it was exhilerating. Although I had fun, I was very councious the whole time that I was in a room with upwards of 120 people convulsing to synthetic music with lights, and there were cars outside, and trees, and kids in china, and a whole world out there, but I guess I just cant get into the mindset. To me, it´s such a production to put on something like that, and especially in a country like this where with 2 kilos of makeup, and 4 hours of hairstraightening even the most ugly girls manage to look halfway decent for these things, than you have the dj´s they gotta pay, the lighting technician, the bartenders, the security, all these things go into it, i´ll never understand, but people do seem to enjoy themselves. Although probably the only person who will read this is McGuire, I wanted an outlet to rhetorically ask and try to understand this peculiar event of dancing. Till next time xanga. | | |
| JulyHey Hey Xanga, got some bad news....not too sound like an emo kid but I dont think anyone reads you anymore, and I dont have much time....it's not you...it's me. haha but I'll give you one last sweet Pehl-journal.
Well things are going pretty good so far, but no...thats a generic way of saying it. Summers flying by and it is blowing, I realized, I pretty much hate summer because of the boredom factor. I never found a job, and I dont have anything to do with all my time, every since we got back from Jersey I have found myself unstructured and wasting time. Everyone like's to relax, but in my ideal enviornement I'm productive, and thats not here. Now not for nothin, I do have days when I'm really busy, I have boxing 3 days a week and I'm working with a spanish tutor as well, plus work around here, and whatever freelance stuff I can do on the side. But most days, drag on and are boring as shit, and I hate it.
Enough about that aspect though otherwise things are pretty good, I had a great birthday and party, plus I enjoy hanging out with my friends whenever I can. I have started talking to my Host family in the DR and the kids are really cool and just about my age, so I'm meeting alot of Dominicans and talking on MSN Messanger, (only Americans use AIM.)
To sum all up, i'm discontent, but I know things are out of my hands right now, I'm not gonna find a job for the next 4 weeks, so I should just make the best of it and I know whenever I get to the DR I can start fresh and make whatever I want of it. Speaking of that Amanda leaves for bootcamp on monday so that sucks too.
In summary, this is not the summer I was sitting there at my desk in may dreaming of, it's had it's moments, but nobodys up for an adventure and everybody works all the time....it blows

| WobwobwobwobOh Xanga, I've neglected you too long, anyways, School is out! I
had my first day of summer yesterday and I gotta tell you, I didnt do
shit... To pick up where I left off I have been accepted into AFS
which means I'll spend my next year in the Dominican Republic! I
finished my SAT's and feel pretty confident. Mike D has
convalesced and opened his own small gym in mechanicsburg.
Hopefully I will get the chance to fight summer golden gloves in
Allentown this July. I've been getting into Philly more and I
keep all my equipment at Joey Eye's. So looking at goals set and
conflicts from last post, things have been pretty smooth.
As for the future; this summer will present alot of challenges mainly
learning more spanish. I finished through spanish two but I
definetely need to brush up as much as I can for next year. Also
I need to get a job to defray some of the cost for my mom, so If anyone
knows of some job they could hook me up with, labor or not, I'd be very
grateful. This saturday We're heading to the beach and Alex is
coming up to spend half the time there. It's a beach in a small
town in South Jersey about 20 miles from AC called "Stone
Harbor." The proximity to Ocean City, Philly, and New York is
nice so I'm looking forward to the week.
Xanga is underated and I'm getting very sick of MySpace so please, anyone who still uses it leave me an eprop or something.
