Mom and dad had been in bed for several hours when they were
awakened by their young, wailing son crawling in bed with them. They asked him
what was wrong.
“I had… a bad… dream”, he replied between sobs.
So they held him and comforted him and calmed him down. When
his sobbing had subsided, his dad decided to seize the “teachable moment”; so
he reminded his boy, “You know, whenever you’re scared you can always pray to
Jesus and he will comfort you.”
The young boy with the tear stained cheeks looked up into
his father’s eyes and said, “I know daddy. But sometimes I need someone with
skin on.”
Matt 25:34-36
34 "Then the King will say to those on his
right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the
kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something
to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and
you invited me in, 36 I needed
clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison
and you came to visit me.'
It’s not “I was hungry and you prayed I would get something
to eat. I was thirsty and you prayed for water…you prayed someone would invite
me in…You prayed I would find some clothes…you prayed for healing…”
I’m not denying the power of prayer. I’ve experienced it in
my own life and seen it working in the lives of others. But sometimes we need
to merge those prayers with action. Someone you know needs “Jesus with skin
on”. Will you be available for them or will you hide behind a wall of prayer? |
