| | Dear Mother,
We had a bit of excitement today. We were out showing the
sword when we heard a loud commotion coming from the outskirts of the city. We
doubletimed it over that way, and mother you wouldn’t believe what we
saw! The closer we got the louder the crowd noise was and we could finally make
out what they were yelling. We relaxed a little bit when we realized they
weren’t threatening anything. They were just shouting "save us". We got to the edge of the crowd, and this is the part
you won’t believe mother, there was no king or mighty warrior like we expected;
just some peasant on a donkey riding into town and all these fools
shouting out around him. They had cut branches off the palm trees to wave
around in the air and throw on the street before him. They were even taking off
tunics and cloaks to lay on the street too, as if his donkey was too good to
soil its feet. I don’t know who he was but they kept saying something about the
son of David, which makes no sense.
David was a king of this rabble but he’s been dead for centuries. Herod is the current
king but he’s really just a puppet figurehead. If this guy had any claim to the
throne I doubt he’d be riding around on a donkey dressed like a peasant. I’ve given up trying to
understand these people.
Well, later in the day he went into the Jewish temple and caused a big stir. See, they have to kill animals and offer them as
sacrifices to their God. A bunch of people had set up businesses inside the
temple to sell animals for sacrifice and to exchange currency so the people
could buy what they needed. Seems like a reasonable and convenient setup to me,
but it infuriated this peasant fellow. He went berserk, turning over tables and
freeing animals, driving the business people out of the temple with a whip! He
was reportedly heard to say the temple was his
house! I think he’s a little nuts myself. Take care mother. I 've got an inspection to prepare for.
Your loving son, Octavius
