I stole this from Andrea (andilynn77), but I knew some of you would enjoy it, too.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college.  Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed.

Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his. One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.

He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus, that college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA." The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work!  Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

LoL I wish I could send that to my grandfather who is a democrat. He believes in all republican views but refuses to admit that he is one. He would vote for Hitler if the democrats put him on the ticket. It confuses the heck outta me b/c he talks like a republican. I guess the only way to explain it is that he is OLD!!!

Holly, that is the only way to explain it. Daddy's parents were that way, too. Paw-Paw was a union member, and the vote largely Democratic. Maw-Maw finally voted Republican before she died, but it was only after Paw-Paw died. He wouldn't have stood for it, although I don't think he believed like Democrats do. I don't think he liked all the welfare programs. When HE was poor, he just did without rather than get it from the govt. One year, Maw-Maw said she would rather not vote if she had to vote Republican, but she wouldn't vote for the Democrats, either.

Heh heh.

I heard Boortz read that one day. It's very profound. What's amazing is how many democrats get worked up into a huff when they hear it, trying to deny that it's reflects what they stand for.

Interesting to hear the tales of your loyal Democrat relatives. I had some, too, but in Georgia they began to vote Republican as the parties began to change positions. Never changed their registration, though, so we eneded up with a ton of Zell Millers over here. Most "liberal Democrats" in Georgia are quite posssibly farther to the right than most Washington Republicans. It's very strange.

Just goes to show the political genius of FDR. When I figure out how he did it, I will be ready to take over the world.

Remindds me of an oldy but a goody:

Hillary is out one morning, notices a little boy on the corner with a box. Curious, she goes over to the child and says, "What's in the box, kid?" The little boy says, "Puppies, they're brand new puppies." Hillary laughs and says, "What kind of puppies are they?" "Democrats," the child says. "Oh, that's cute," Hillary thinks and she walks off. A couple of days later, Hillary is out with Bill and she spies the same boy with his box just ahead. She says to Bill, "You gotta check this out," and they both go over to the boy with the box. Hillary says, "Look in the box Bill, isn't that cute? Look at those little puppies. Hey, kid, tell my husband Bill what kind of puppiess they are." The boy replies, "They're Republicans."

"Whoa!" Hillary says, "I came by here the other day and you said they were Democrats. What's up?" "Well," the kid says, "Their eyes are open now."

And Doug, you can't take over the world. My son has already decided that's what he's going to do.  :nono:
