Beth has been stalking. She got on MySpace and found a bunch of people like former neighbors, and even my nephew. She said his was "interesting". I think I'll stalk, too. I need to see something "interesting". (Oh my gosh....I just went to my nephew's blog. Interesting doesn't even begin to cover it!)
Heather had her baby Saturday evening. Kaitlyn Elizabeth was 4 lbs/5 oz. and 16" long. She was born at 30 weeks and 3 days. At that gestational age, she should have been about 3 lbs., but since Heather had gestational diabetes, that made the baby heavier. Here is information on gestational diabetes. It usually develops around weeks 24-28. Hers showed up at about 26 weeks.
Heather also had another condition called by many names: toxemia, pre-eclampsia, or PIH (Pregnancy-Induced Hypertension). She developed high blood pressure midway through the pregnancy. It usually develops around the 20th week. When it progresses to eclampsia, the mother has seizures. That can be fatal to both mom and baby. Here is information on toxemia or pre-eclampsia.
Both Heather and Kaitlyn are doing well. But Heather is still pretty heavily medicated after her c-section. Heather also sufferes from depression caused by the pregnancy hormones. Many women suffer from post-partum depression, but she decided to get a jump on it, and get depressed during the pregnancy. We joked a lot about that the day I took her to the doctor. So she still needs lots of prayer. |
