I am so glad we can go to church and have fun. This morning in Sunday School, we got to laughing, and we laughed till my stomach hurt.
Prov 17:22.....2 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. NIV
It's good to laugh. It feels good. It brings people closer together, and makes you look forward to the next time you'll be together. It lifts depression. And if you do it right, it's exercise
While we were laughing, I was thinking of a friend who would have enjoyed that laughter, and I was wishing they were here. I think it's sad that some people think Christians don't have a good time. They just haven't been with the right Christians People don't have to be sticks in the mud to honor God. God invented laughter, and He said it does your heart good like medicine. So go ahead and laugh.
We went Christmas caroling last night. We went first to a nearby nursing home and sang as we walked the halls. Then we went to the homes of some of our shut-in members. They always enjoy us coming to sing for them. I won't say we are good singers, but we do make a joyful noise. Then we went back to the church for hot chocolate and homemade cookies.
At the nursing home, I recognized a lady that use to live here in our city. She and her husband use to be precinct judges here in Deer Park, and we saw them every time we went to vote. They also presided over the precinct meetings after election day. I stopped and talked to her a few minutes. Her husband died several years ago. She appears to have had a stroke because she had difficulty talking.
There is a man in the nursing home who spends his time running a model train around the Christmas tree in the foyer. He said during the Depression, when he was 5 years old, he wanted a train just like one someone else got for Christmas. He said it took him 70 years, but he got one. He obviously enjoyed running it around the tree.
