The Peter Principle:

In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his or her level of incompetence.

Peter's Corollary:

In time, every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out its duties.

Work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence.

~ Dr. Lawrence J. Peter

Definitely true. It's always the people who get paid the most who do the least work.

I'm guessing this is prominent in your workplace?

I most definitely saw that happen more than once in my last job before college.  I got a big piece of paper and a wide-tip Magig Marker and simply wrote the words:

THE PETER PRINCIPLE

on it and left it hanging in my cubicle.  The Principle was proven absolutely correct when not one of my supervisors had any idea what the sign meant.  Fun times at work, my man, fun times.

Hunh?  Okay.  Yeah.  I have come to areas where I don't know what the hell to do.  Hmmmm.  Isn't this a glass-half-full-kind of statement?
