Read "The Ballad of Reading Gaol" - it is a great piece of poetry. (My wife loves it too.) It is extremely well written - and describes the experiences that Oscar Wilde suffered at the hands of his gaolers for the crime of being gay. (He was a broken man after he left gaol - and wandered over to France.)

Never in today's world!
