I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Well, I'm a big fan of Ralph's, but I still like quotations.  And while I was searching for that one, I ran into a short essay of his wherein he writes about how much of what we DO know we GET from books, quotations, and so on...

Regular readers know that I post quotes gleaned from the Troy, MI Somerset-Gazette.  I'm amazed at how often the ones I find resonate with what I'm thinking about or posting about here on Xanga.  Following this intro are a whole raft of quotes having to do with change...

"Life is always at a turning point." -- Irwin Edman

"Life is hard.  Next to what?" -- Unknown

"Everything flows, nothing stays still." -- Heraclitus

"There is no miraculous change that takes place in a boy that makes him a man.  He becomes a man by being a man." -- Louis L'Amour

"The way of a superior man is three-fold: Virtuous, he is free from anxieties; wise, he is free from perplexities; bold, he is free from fear." -- Confucious

"Change is the law of life."  -- John F. Kennedy

"For good and evil, man is a free, creative spirit.  This produces the very queer world we live in, a world of continuous creation and therefore continuous change and insecurity."  -- Joyce Cary

I like quotes too.  I was actually reading a site earlier and got sucked into a few categories.

Great quotes. The earliest book that I know of that talks about Change is the Tao Te Ching, but no doubt these ideas far proceeded the written word. Thanks for the list. I really enjoyed them.

Best,
Rich
