There's always a question of how much one does / doesn't want to reveal on xanga. It's all within the control of the diary creator. As for myself, I would read others' entry with the same expectation that others will read my own ones as well.
Sometimes I wonder if anyone in this world actually would write a paper about the psychology behind the concept of online diary. On top of that, how would the footprint function completely change the dynamics of both the readers as well as the writiers?
As far as I concern, I do find specific people visiting my xanga (which you're staring at right now) at frequencies much higher than other people. Some of them I know, and some of them I don't.
The question then comes down to: should I be concerned with those I do not know, yet they visit my website frequently?
My take on that would be a flat - out no because I have FULL CONTROL over what to / not to reveal. Everytime I write an entry, I have full knowledge of what information does / doesn't belong to my xanga. That alone already ensures no "accidental" leak of information or even privacy.
I have also heard of the so - called arguments like "OMG...I don't know who he / she is. He / she is stalking my xanga. It's NOT MEANT for all people to read it. It should only be read by my own friends!!"
Ok, if something isn't meant to be read by everyone in the world, then the diary should be set as protected / private in the first place.
This is no different than someone, BY CHOICE, walking naked down the street and then he / she yells "pervert!" at every stranger on the streets. Who is it to blame for the emotional trauma associated with such behavior?? |
