| | Seriously, folks...How illegal would it be to tie a pencil around the neck of a 5th or 6th grader?
These are the things I ponder as we go through a normal day here at Tomahawk Elementary. That and I don't even come close to udnerstanding the educational system. NOT EVEN CLOSE. When a student sleeps, apparently the appropriate course of action is to leave them be. Because, in real life, the system waits on you...right? 'Don't worry, little dysfunctional kid. We will be here whenever you're ready to wake up and start working.' Stupidest crap ever. Wanna sleep? Fine! I'll send your happy ass home to sleep. I don't care how many times. If you flunk out of school, you should have been awake...NOT MY PROBLEM.
I suppose this makes me an insensitive jerk who lacks compassion, but we're not doing these kids any favors by instilling them with the notion that the world waits for them. I know...I know...sixth graders, but seriously; bad habits are learned and then repeated. I can't come into work and simply lay my head down and refuse to work. Well, I could, but only about twice! When did education become so "hands off"? (I don't mean "hands off" in the literal touching sense as much as the laissez faire attitude) It's when people started suing school districts, and teachers started having sex with sixth graders. Now, the mere implication that there has been any hands on contact leads to an uproar. Which, in my opinion has weakened the school system. Teachers aren't allowed to teach. They have become glorified babysitters to those students who refuse to work. This should not be so.
Anyway, that is my rant on the school district.
A few more punches in the face would do most of these students good.
