A Very Special Prayer Request

Look at this house:

It was built in 1920, and looks as stable and sturdy as can be. It's stone, and looks like an English cottage, surrounded by roses and honeysuckle, ferns and trees. It has the inside style you'd expect from a house built during that time.  Arched passages between rooms, 2 fireplaces, a telephone nook in the hallway, and a brick foyer at the front door.

Downstairs is a full apartment, including a full kitchen and a bar, where we could whip up smoothies for all our friends. In the back yard is a BarBQue shack, for lack of a better word.  It is a little screened in house with a brick grill, sink, and a ceiling fan.

There would be room for monthly potluck fellowships with friends, and room for Joel to have his own little nook during his college years.  Room for a parent to live in the future if needed. We met the "across the street" neighbors last night.  Such a NICE family.

This house is in a part of Memphis that has an awful reputation, but careful research has revealed that this street is a quiet little street.  Teddy has driven by it at midnight on a Friday night and it is as serene as can be.  We have checked the police reports for the past few months.  We have also checked the police reports for the more "recommended" neighborhoods and found them to be riddled with burglaries, vandalism and stalkings reported.  One house we looked at in a more "recommended" area had 4 burglaries, a vandalism and a stalking reported on that very street in one week alone.  SO.... reputation is not everything.

We have looked and looked at so many houses in the past month.  Each time, we thank the realtor, and as he drives away we look at each other and say, "Do you want to go look at the house on Hillis again?"  And then, we do.  We go and look and love and our hearts sing.  Our hearts do not sing at the other houses. We had looked at that house and another house 3 times from the outside before actually going with a realtor to see the inside.

Before our first trip out with the realtor to look at houses, I prayed, "Father, I know I should have faith enough to hear your voice and listen without a sign, but I am weak.  I do not lack faith in you, but I do lack faith in me.  Will you please show me something from INSIDE the house you have chosen for us?"  As I prayed, I saw the funniest thing.... a big utility sink.  Well, that sink is in the basement of the cottage on Hillis street.  Honest, it is. Still, we have looked at other houses, and continued to pray.

We have been told that it will be harder to get financing on this house because of its age, though it is in SO much better condition than many of the MUCH newer houses we've seen.  The price is incredible, even for that part of town.

My parents have fallen in love with this house too, and may help us some in getting it, if we can't get some of the "better" financing.  Still, I'd love for God to just open doors and provide in beautiful ways in this situation. This house answers so many of the needs and desires we have for a house.

Someone who REALLY know and understands us well could be shown 100 houses and asked which one is right for us would know this is our house.  It is in wonderful, move-in condition.

Pray for us.
We want what God wants.

Love,
Robyn

I remain in prayer for your discerning spirit and wisdom. We live in house built about the same time, albeit in a quiet and very small town. Still, the house has required little effort on our part to keep up. One other thing - it has a feeling of peace as soon as I entered into it has maintained that. Perhaps you might be sensitive to that as well. How did you feel when you were in it?
