| | Guañape IslandsThe oldest ceramics of Peru were found on the mainland, opposite the Guañape Islands, possibly for its collection. It is possible to visit the islands from the beach of Puerto Morin, near the town & in the Province of Virú. There is similar wildlife to the Ballestas Islands of Ica & Palomino Islands of Lima. The water was clear enough recently for a scuba competition there with visitors from the APEC summit & Promperú. The islands can be seen on clear days from Huaca Arco Iris & the Trujillo-Huanchaco road. Peru deep in it (in Spanish) reports 10,000 tonnes being collected for 2008-9 agricultural campaign.
