  • A Visit To A Memorial Park/Cemetery; Grass, Flowers, & The Word Of God; Setting Our House In Order

On LORD's Day Sunday, July 6th, in between worship services, we were led to visit a nearby Memorial Park/Cemetery. We drove past a distraught woman weeping after leaving flowers at a grave. We then parked the car at another section and walked through a portion of the cemetery. We read the inscriptions of a few gravestones, and tried to search for ones with Scripture references, or at least references of Our Lord Jesus. It was sad to see a clustered section under a tree for the graves of infants. As we looked at all the graves surrounding us, we remembered and discussed the Second Coming of Christ ~when all His people will be raised up and caught up together to meet Him in the air and shall ever be with Our Lord.

It was a blessing to find a handful of gravestones with specific references to the Bible or Our Lord Jesus. As we walked back to the car, we stopped and stood for a moment together, so that I could read out loud and meditate upon Psalm 23 from my Bible. Another woman who had just visited a grave saw us do this, and she began to cry as she drove away. We walked back to the car and sat there for some time, realizing that our time on earth is so short.

Dear ones, there are many souls yet to reach. May God help us reach them with the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus...

    before it is too late.

Right there and then, I was led to make plans for my own gravestone, the Lord willing. I made an initial illustration of it inside my sermon notebook and showed my dear husband. I pray for God's wisdom to chose the exact Scripture references to be inscribed. And I pray and trust that someday in God's timing and will, God's Word on my gravestone would continue to be a bright testimony, witness, and blessing to others after I have long passed away.

    Isaiah 47:8 (KJV)

    "The grass withereth,

    the flower fadeth:

but the word of our God

    shall stand for ever."
