How to Please God

I hope you weren't expecting some deep theological discussion on how to please God, I guess you may be disapointed. The answer really is a simple on. DON'T SIN!!!!  Are you constantly trying to DO things to please God, or maybe not so much please God, but trying to gain favor by merit. Sometimes we are SOOOO busy involved with doing things for God because we think He wants us to constantly be working for His kingdom that we loose sight of what pleases God the most. Do you make a conscience effort NOT to sin? Not because you want to get some reward, not because you want to feel good about yourself, not because you want others to think highly of you, but do you make an effort NOT to sin simply because you want to please God. When sin knocks on your door next time, think of how it will please God if you turn from that sin and never give it another thought just because you want to please Him, not because you want to be recognized. God is Holy and hates sin, he can have no part with sin. He made His creation in 6 days and said "IT WAS GOOD" The Bible says none is good but God...God once called His creation GOOD. Sin destroyed His GOOD creation, so yes He hates sin. There are plenty of passages in the Bible too "Go and sin no more" Christ says to the woman that was going to be stoned. "Be angry but sin not" the Bible also says. DON'T SIN and you will please God more than ANYTHING else you could do. Make that conscience effort to NOT sin because you want to please God, it will change your heart and your life! Just some thoughts that went thru my head today while driving around doing inspections, just thought I'd share them with you. Take care Friends!

God searched high and low for a man who would believe Him....not sinning pleases Him because it is best for us if we do so (sin blocks us from Him)...but not sinning is more for our benefit than His....believe God, I think that really tickles Him...thanks for a thought provoking post!

Yes, that is good advice. Oh how hard it is to follow sometimes.

Hope you are well. I've been really out of touch with xanga and the people here. I almost feel like you must have during Lent. I suppose one day I'll come back, but I have other priorities right now.

Take care Gene. Be blessed.

Somethings I've been pondering and beginning to put into place regarding sin, which is to miss the mark, are:

#1 Don't focus on spend time wondering or worrying about the sin.

#2 Focus on whatever is pure, good, right...

#3 When sinful thoughts come into the head, stop, realize the thoughts, the trigger(s), the emotions that are caused, and be aware that these are not coming from who you truly are... not coming from who God sees that you are.

#4 Do not dwell on the event that caused or almost caused you to miss the mark. Giving the event more thought gives it a greater feel of being real or being a part of who you are... when, in fact, it never was a true part of who you are.

So, I agree! Don't miss the mark! Focus on the Truth that is in you. Purposely realize the thoughts and emotions occurring in your life and realize that you are responsible for making the decision for Light or Darkness with each passing moment. Choose Light! :D

Focusing on pleasing God is definitely a good thing to do. I've found when I do that, the desire to sin just kind of fades away. Rather than focus on not sinning, I focus on pursuing the things of God (1 Tim. 6:11) to please Him out of my love for Him. God post!

Blessings,
JC

When I'm tempted to sin, I say

"That's not who I am!  I am a Saint, holy and beloved and seated with Christ in Heavenly places!"

most of the time, that works for me.  Puts my mind back in the right place.

I think what makes God happy is when we do our best and try to improve ourselves.

But that's just my opinion.

What is not just my opinion is that there is none of us who can just "Not sin". we all sin, all of us.

@nidan - You are so right, I didn't say we don't sin, when we resist that temptation to sin that pleases God, and if we keep in mind that it pleases God and focus on not sinning because we want to please God, it puts a whole new view on our perspective of how to deal with sin when it creeps up on us.We still fall into sin, and thats when we have Christ's life imputed to our's as believers in Him that God looks upon and see's righteousness instead of our filth!

Sorry I haven't been up to date on reading my subscriptions, but we've been awfully busy here. Did want to stop by and say that this goes along with a book I've been reading "Reclaiming Surrendered Ground" by Jim Logan. He talks at length about not trying to resist the sin (the temptation) because that puts your focus on the sin (the temptation) more. He says we should resist the tempter (Satan). Has been a very good book and has opened my eyes alot. Very good book....

How about 1. Love God and 2. Love your neighbor as yourself... Makes it a whole lot harder to sin when you are doing those 2 things!

Hi Grampy,

Nice to meet you too! Thank you for your input on my previous entry (and thank you, of course, to Over_my_coffee_cup for recommending it to you). "We SOOOO need to be careful of what we say about our spouse and who we say it to." I definitely agree with you on this one! I think it is even more important to be aware of what examples you are setting for your children (that is, you should always work as a team together and never ever put down your spouse [and therefore the two of you] in front of them).
As you have stated in your example, I also think that the people around you can influence you (in both good and not so good ways). There are so many things we need to be aware of. =]
I hope that you will continue to provide your insights and continue sharing on some of my other questions when you have the chance.

Thank you and God bless!
