| | Now That You Ask...
My friend Paul has a LiveJournal site. I read it fairly regularly, and sometimes will leave a comment. LJ is nice in that, if you don't have an account, you can still post a comment anonymously. When I leave a comment, I usually try to make some mention that it's me, so Paul will know.
Paul's boyfriend also has a LiveJournal site. Not really knowing him beyond what Paul tells me, I don't frequent his site as often (and frankly, very little that he writes captures my interest).
Anyway, today I was checking on Paul's site, and following up on a comment that I left. His boyfriend responded to my comment, and asked, "And when are you getting an LJ???"
I responded simply that I use a different host for my webjournal, and don't need LJ.
I chose not to tell him where my site was, or even the host name. Because right now, I have the liberty to discuss things that Paul tells me that the boyfriend may not appreciate hearing. I do this very infrequently, as you may have noticed, but still - it's a liberty I have. And, as long as Paul's boyfriend doesn't know about my site, I can occasionally mention that I don't much care for him. Granted, this is based mostly on what Paul tells me and what I read from boyfriend's journal when I bother with it. However, I'm not concerned about the fact that my picture may be somewhat skewed. It's nice to have the liberty of an incomplete perspective on the occasional person or event.
Now I'm left to wonder if Paul will end up telling the boyfriend where my site is. If he does, that's fine, of course. It does mean, however, that I'll have to be diligent in making sure that I don't say anything that would cause trouble between Paul and Boyfriend (unless Paul wants said trouble). I may not be in the boyfriend's fan club, but I'll always do whatever I can for Paul. |
