Whew

Well, that wasn't too bad.  Actually, it seemed to go really well.  My sermon seemed to be very well-received.  I know that it was a fantastic experience for me to do that.  Definitely a highlight of the year.

Of course, now I am listening to the tape, and I'm rethinking and reworking, and basically, fiercely criticizing my delivery (a little) and what I perceive as gaping holes in my message (a lot).  But it's too late now...the sermon is given, it is past, and there's not much I can do now.   This is why it's always better for me to prepare remarks shortly before I'm scheduled to give them.  If there is too much time between completion of a speech and the time of delivery, I'll end up tearing the thing apart through my own criticism.

Now I want a nap.

I was considering actually coming to hear it, but I didn't know it was this soon! Welcome to the world of teaching with the "I know I could have done it better" attitude. Things that help me cope are that I know that I reached some students through what I said, and I know that I can always reteach what I think I failed to teach. True, there's always room for improvement, and there's always time to share that improvement. It would be scary to hear that you thought it was completely wonderful and perfect. We're human and so not perfect. I'm glad you had the experience, because that's what matters, and I'm sure that I would have learned something.

It's done.  It's over.  Don't analyze.  The torch wielding villagers decided to skip your party.

I'm sure it was absolutely fantastic.  If you sermonize as well as you blog, then even I might be tempted to attend the service.

Warm Fuzzies.  You deserve them!
