My Girlfriend and a Nice Collection of Boys
So, Rick came to my church yesterday. He's been before, but yesterday was the first time our pastor met him.
I did not witness this, but according to reports, upon meeting him, she said, "Uvon has a nice collection of boys!"
Such an odd statement. Excepting a couple friends who came for my sermon in July, I've brought exactly two people to the church - Jerry and Rick, assuming Rick starts coming with any sort of regularity. I have no idea how I've managed a "nice collection of boys" nor do I know where this collection is now. But it is kind of amusing.
Especially since the strongest rumor at church involves my girlfriend.
For almost as long as I've been going to Edgewater Presbyterian, it's been suspected that Michelle and I are a couple. Of course, she is my partner-in-crime for most church-related things, and I usually see her once or twice a week outside of church.
Tonight, she held a rather impromptu "Hotel Rwanda" party. Basically, she cooked up an African dish out of one of her cookbooks and we watched Hotel Rwanda.
I arrived a little bit early. Michelle said she didn't want to be rude, but she needed to jump in the shower. That was fine with me. She gave me the instructions on how to let people in when they buzzed. So I was answering her phone for her. Then she asked me to ignore the unvacuumed carpet.
"Michelle, would you like me to vacuum while you're in the shower."
"Oh, I wouldn't dream of asking you to do that."
"I think we are close enough for me to vacuum without it being an issue."
So, I vacuumed. And answered the phone. And let the others in as they arrived.
Of course, I wasn't going to say anything about having vacuumed for Michelle...I didn't think it was necessarily appropriate to say that I had to help clean the place. But Michelle pretty much announced it when she got out of the shower.
So, Martha and Jerry and Kent decided that, for all intents and purposes, I was her boyfriend.
Yes, everyone at the Hotel Rwanda party knows that I'm gay. They decided this was a moot point.
I'm not sure what this really means, if anything.
After the Hotel Rwanda party, we watched an MST3K short to cheer ourselves up. Hotel Rwanda is not exactly the feel-good movie of the year. |
