Benefits of Weekend Mornings in a Sunny Spot

One of the best things about the new apartment is the sunroom.  I like spending time up there on the weekends and just hanging out.  So far, it's been sunny almost every weekend, which has been really nice.

Check with me again in Winter on that, though.

Anyway.  When I'm up there, I like to listen to NPR.  Especially in the mornings when I'm drinking my coffee.  I realize that's rather liberal yuppie of me, but there you go.

A couple weeks ago, I was listening.  I don't remember which program it was, but it was fairly early in the morning.  They did a spot on this group called the Puppini Sisters.

I want the Puppini Sisters album.  I want it so badly that I actually put it on my amazon.com wishlist (I have issues with the whole concept of the amazon wishlist, so I use it more as a catch-all for titles I want to remember later.  The album is the one thing I actually REALLY want).

Why, do you ask, am I so ravenous for this album?

Because they sing Gloria Gaynor's megahit "I Will Survive."

In the style of the Andrews Sisters.

Yes, those Andrews Sisters.

It's hilarious.

Apparently, the album also has their cover of "Heart of Glass."  Can't wait to hear that one...

The Puppini Sisters are absolutely brilliant. They're not actually sisters, but that doesn't matter at all. The album is a sublime pleasure and mixes stuff like 'I Will Survive' with some older standard numbers. 'Heart Of Glass' is brilliant but I think my favourite is their version of Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights.' We had a 'covers-fest' period at work with their album, the second album by Nouvelle Vague (lounge bar jazz style takes on mainly 80s hits, though they do 'Heart of Glass', too) and German band Texas Lightning (whose versions of 'Walk On The Wild Side' and 'Dancing Queen' are amazing)  on the randomizer CD player thing. I was in heaven.

Have you heard the group Cake do their cover of "I will Survive?" I liked it....you might, too.
