Well, yeah, it's that day.  But, I'm feeling okay.  I don't have anyone to be with.  Last year, I had an unnotable date.  This year, I'm alone, which is something with which I'm much more familiar.  The big thing is, I feel strangely content.

"Roses are red/Violets are blue/I need a Valentine/How about you?"

I have had a little more acknowledgement of Valentine's Day this year than I normally have.  I got the usual card from Granny.  That was kind of odd.  It wasn't usual fare.  It said something about me being caring and unselfish.  And Granny made a point to underline "caring" and "unselfish".  I'll take the caring part.  I sometimes think my capacity for caring is too excessive, and will eventually be my undoing.  The unselfish part I'm more hesitant about.  Not that I feel particularly selfish, but I don't think I go so far as to be "unselfish".

I got to have dinner with Daniel yesterday, which was nice, as we haven't had a chance to hang out one-on-one in over two months.  Sort of a pre-Valentine's Day deal with someone whom I have adopted as a brother.  Nice.  I had a small little token for him, which he appreciated.  And he drove me home, rather than making me take CTA.

I also got a quick phone call from Falkore wishing me a Happy Valentine's Day.  That was sweet.

Then, there is the highlight of the day, which is actually the first thing.  I woke up this morning to an e-card.  I had not expected an e-card, or any card, really, beyond Granny's.  The e-card was perfect.  *warm fuzzy glow* Naturally, I had to reciprocate.  I spent over an hour searching, but couldn't find the perfect one.  I had to settle for one that seemed pretty apropos, even though I thought the poetry it contained was rather jejune.  Hopefully, I'll be able to make it up to him when we talk later tonight.  He's my Valentine this year.

I haven't been looking for this, but he makes me feel special in a way that I haven't experienced much, if at all.  This is not to suggest that other men haven't made me feel special - they have.  But this is different in a way that remains, at least thus far, indefinable.  'Snice. 

In other news: 

I'm distressed by the news that Barbie and Ken have split up.  I'm not sure if my distress comes from the fact that they've split, or from the fact that this, apparently, is news.

Lots of pop-ups in Xanga lately.  The one I just got is the strangest.  Bad cartoon of some people on a large floating toilet with the Royal Caribbean logo on it.  It says that Royal Caribbean dumps thousands of gallons of sewage in the ocean everyday, and wants me to sign a petition pledging to never take another Royal Caribbean cruise until they advance their water treatment technology.

*blink*

I haven't been able to afford a cruise in 8 years.  Furthermore, I have never had a pop-up petitioning me to join a political/social cause before.  In addition, I'm pretty sure that most sewage is easily and quickly biodegradable, or I was snoozing in biology more than I thought, so maybe we're just enriching the ocean bed, eh? 

I think somebody just had a bad experience on Royal Caribbean, and decided to whine in a large way.  I'm sure Carnival dumps a LOT more sewage.  I think they have a larger fleet.
