  • Being Acclimated

As you may know, I coach a mentoring-marathon training team.  On my way to practice yesterday, I saw something that just blew my mind!

To give you a taste of the affect of the fires...  When I'm driving to practice, yesterday, I could hardly drive with the windows down, because wind increases and blows the soot - and microscopic ash - gets in!  and I start to feel it in my throat and taste it!  The air starts to smell like a chimney.  I could see little white spots on my car window.  (To say the least, we didn't run yesterday.)  While I'm noticing the little white spots, I pulled up to a stop light, and this 4Runner pulls up next to me with all the windows down!  First impression, I"m like "Whoa!, how can you have your windows down?"  Then I notice that the guy driving is taking a drag, like its candy or his last, ... he's taking a drag from a cigarette...

I wanted to say, "I'm already smoking here without the cigarette!"

My after thought... Is this what it means to be a 'well-acclimated' Angeleno?

good point. After enough smog and fire ash, you are almost better off smoking because then at least you are breathing through a filter.

My brother lives ten miles from one of the fires--pretty scary and daunting stuff. I hope your marathon team does well, and the fires come to an end soon!
