A bowl is not sufficient. It's like raising a kid in a closet. Let me break it down for you.

downsides of a bowl:

1) small area. (small closet)
2) lack of filtration -> dirty water (closet filled with gym socks)
3) little oxygen (airtight closet)
4) higher concentrations of ammonia/nitrate (pee smells worse with less water to dilute it)
5) you have to clean it more often

now give your kid a room (tank) and a filter.

Not that Mr. Fishie is dying from the bowl (it's probably sick from when you dropped it) [bad mother] In the future if you get kids, get a tank. Thank you. ;D

Well they're pretty dirty. Just remember to wash your hands 27 times with fruity anti-bacterial soap if you touch it. I guess you'll be fine if you follow the 27 times rule.
