  • I can't believe there's only a couple weeks left of life as I know it.  Not to be melodramatic or anything, here.  The past weeks have been a whirlwind of work and preparation for our largest show of the year.  we've kind of limped our way there, but things *cross fingers* are coming together.  This show will be awesome!

It's amazing to think how my life will change after next summer.  No class registration to worry about, no room draw to figure out.  No more house parties, no more working to 3-4am, no more world of warcraft instances with my healer sitting across the room from me.  No more watching video games played next to me, no more late night half-off dinners, no more credit card roulette.  No more dollar movies in mcconomy, no more table shifts, no more student organizations and frantic emails.

No more homework!  No more all nighters, no more free laundry, no more pittsburgh, no more summer vacations and winter/spring breaks.

You know how they say college prepares you for real life?  I think college prepares you for real life the same way climbing a tree gets you closer to the moon.

How can I not feel regret for losing this crazy whirlwind life?

  • You will have new "deliverables" to worry about, new clients to figure out. More networking obligations, more working from 8-9pm (depending on the project), more conference calls with people around the globe, more watching corporate politics played around you, more room service dinners, more coporate AmEx card charges. More movies on airplanes, more bench time, more internal projects and even more frantic emails.

But not to worry, you will still get your homework, all nighters if you let them push too much work on you, free laundry if you go on an international assignment, and even pittsburgh if you get a project there. But yea, you'll get short changed on the vacation days.

If the idea of real life is to be defined as the moon, and college, climbing a tree, then graduation will likely feel like jumping off the tree to simulate the experience of flight to the moon.

But then you'll land. (Hopefully without too many bruises.) And realization will strike: real life is not the moon, real life is here on earth. We are all but monkeys looking for another tree to climb up after we're done with ones that we out grow. You do not regret losing the previous crazy whirlwind life on a past tree, because you will always keep what it taught you with you - the skills and ability to conquer an even greater tree.

Welcome to the working life. http://x3b.xanga.com/ebbb2a447953337602906/b25806564.jpg
